\n\tLenier and Costa Azul\u2019s \u201cMaquillaje\u201d has topped Billboard\u2019s<\/em>\u00a0latest\u00a0new Latin music poll<\/a>, published on Friday (Aug. 29).<\/p>\n

\n\tIn support of the weekly New Music Latin roundup and playlist, curated by\u00a0Billboard\u00a0<\/em>Latin and\u00a0Billboard Espa\u00f1ol<\/em>\u00a0editors, music fans voted for the Cuban artist\u2019s team up with the rising Nicaraguan group as their favorite music release of the week.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cMaquillaje\u201d generated more than 93% of the vote, beating out other new releases, including Car\u00edn Le\u00f3n & Kacey Musgraves\u2019 \u201cLost In Translation,\u201d Yeison Jim\u00e9nez and Natalia Jim\u00e9nez\u2019s \u201cPedazos,\u201d and new albums by Luis R. Conriquez (Meneo<\/em>), Hamilton (Afrorockstar<\/em>), and Mau y Ricky (La Llave<\/em>). Meanwhile, \u201cV\u00e1monos de Aqu\u00ed\u201d by Pablo Albor\u00e1n and Indiara Sfair was a favorite close second in the weekly poll.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe song was born spontaneously earlier this year when Lenier and Costa Azul crossed paths at a record studio in Miami. Produced by J-Prod and penned by the Cuban singer-songwriter himself, \u201cMaquillaje\u201d is an urban-tinged romantic cumbia powered by Lenier\u2019s sugary, raspy vocals and the eloquent harmonies by Fred, Oscar and Omar (Costa Azul\u2019s vocalists). <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe heart doesn\u2019t need makeup\/ Nor to invent a character, when it comes to love\/ The heart is so crazy, so brave\/ That it goes against the current, when it\u2019s right,\u201d they chant in the song about loving someone in a transparent and honest way.<\/p>\n

\n\tBeyond a first collaborative effort, \u201cMaquillaje\u201d marks a historic moment in the Nicaraguan music scene and for the group also known as \u201cEl Imperio de la Cumbia.\u201d<\/p>\n
