Dierks Bentley<\/a> is known for his hit country songs such \u201cDrunk on a Plane,\u201d \u201cI Hold On\u201d and \u201cRiser,\u201d but he\u2019s also an avid reader.<\/p>\n During an appearance on radio and television personality Bobby Bones\u2019 BobbyCast<\/a>, the two traded notes on some of their favorite books and recent books they\u2019ve read (among the books Bentley named were Ulysses from author James Joyce and War and Peace from by Leo Tolstoy).<\/p>\n More from Billboard<\/strong><\/p>\n At one point, Bentley recalled a story about an interesting gift he once received from fellow country music artist Tim McGraw<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cWant me to give you the greatest flex of all time? And he\u2019ll probably appreciate this story, \u2019cause I don\u2019t know if it\u2019s true or not, if he did it on purpose,\u201d Bentley said. \u201cTim McGraw, we were also talking about books one time, I don\u2019t know where it was. He goes, \u2018Let me send you some books,\u2019 a big reader. He sent me a cardboard box full of books. Every book was this thick \u2026 it was like Russian \u2014 it wasn\u2019t written in Russian, [but] a book about a Russian painter and this book about Eastern philosophy. I wish I had the whole collection because, with McGraw, you can\u2019t tell, \u2018Is he pulling a prank on me?\u2019 Or, he could be totally serious, \u2019cause he\u2019s a one-upper for sure \u2026 you go out on the road, he\u2019ll flip that tire one more time than you.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s a competitive dude,\u201d Bones said.<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s so competitive, so I still can\u2019t tell to this day, I need to ask him. He\u2019ll probably be like, \u2018Of course I read those books.\u2019 [It was] this huge collection of really thick history books, that I\u2019m just like, \u2018This has to be a joke,\u2019 but maybe not.\u201d<\/p>\n The conversation also turned to the topic of manifestation, as Bentley also noted how he took inspiration after a friend gave him a book by pastor and author Joel Osteen. \u201cOne of the things he said in that book, which I really agreed with, is \u2018If you really want something, you gotta see it every day. If you want to go to Spain, get a postcard of Spain and put it on your refrigerator.\u2019 Well\u2026 I really wanted to leave Nashville before COVID,\u201d he said, adding that he wanted to be in Colorado or [Bentley\u2019s home state of] Arizona. \u201cI had this backpack, an old burlap sack and I hung it by the backdoor and put a piece of duct tape on it that said \u2018West,\u2019 and I had a flannel shirt in there. I\u2019d look at it every day.\u201d<\/p>\n Oddly enough, Bentley and his family were in Colorado when the COVID-19 pandemic began in early 2020. \u201cI don\u2019t want to say I was involved in manifesting COVID\u2026 We ended up living [in Colorado] for a year, which had been my dream. I was like, \u2018How am I going to move my whole family to Colorado?\u2019 We ended up staying there, the kids went to school there,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Bentley and Bones also talked about Bentley\u2019s passion for flying and songs that fueled his desire to be a country singer-songwriter.
