Chris Martin has been accused of \u201cdehumanising\u201d Israeli fans during a Coldplay<\/a> concert at Wembley Stadium.<\/a><\/p>\n The singer asked two women on to the stage and asked where they were from. When they replied \u201cIsrael\u201d it drew boos and some applause from spectators.<\/p>\n A clip of the interaction, which went viral online, shows the two nervous fans, identified only as Avia and Yael, with Martin, who also welcomed any Palestinians <\/a>in the 90,000-strong crowd.<\/p>\n Martin said: \u201cI\u2019m going to say this. I\u2019m very grateful that you\u2019re here as humans. We are treating you as equal humans on Earth, regardless of where you come from.<\/p>\n \u201cThank you for being here. We\u2019re grateful and thank you for being loving and kind.<\/p>\n \u201cAlthough it\u2019s controversial, maybe, I also want to welcome people in the audience from Palestine.<\/p>\n \u201cI believe that we\u2019re all equally human.\u201d<\/p>\n Martin\u2019s remarks were met with criticism from some parts of the Jewish community<\/a> who felt he embarrassed the fans.<\/p>\n Eve Barlow, a Zionist journalist, said she \u201ccannot even begin to unpack how mortifying that moment must have been\u201d for the two fans.<\/p>\n Yaakov Langer, a Jewish YouTuber, described Martin\u2019s comments as \u201cdisgusting\u201d.<\/p>\n He said: \u201cColdplay invited two women on stage then berates them and makes them feel bad for … being Israeli.<\/p>\n \u201cHe didn\u2019t mention the hostages being held by Hamas.<\/a> He didn\u2019t actually treat them like human beings.\u201d<\/p>\n Casey Babb, an academic, said the singer turned \u201cwhat should have been a night of celebration, awe, and excitement\u201d into \u201can evening of humiliation, confusion and sadness because you lack even the most basic understanding of the things you preach\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cInstead of supporting them and treating them like you would any other fans \u2013 with dignity, respect, and kindness \u2013 you made them feel conditionally tolerated, dehumanised and guilty of being Jewish,\u201d Babb posted.<\/p>\n Maccabee Task Force, a not-for-profit organisation that supports Zionist college students<\/a>, said while Martin \u201cattempted to be kind to two Israeli fans\u201d he \u201cstill unnecessarily politicised the moment\u201d.<\/p>\n Martin\u2019s representatives were approached for comment by The Telegraph.<\/p>\n\u2018Mortifying moment\u2019<\/h2>\n
