Eric Clapton is returning to Columbus this fall, but for the legendary guitarist, the trip is more than just another stop on tour.<\/p>\n
The 79-year-old Rock and Roll Hall of Famer will perform Sept. 5<\/a> at Mershon Auditorium, a show that sold out quickly.<\/p>\n Clapton\u2019s ties to central Ohio run deeper than a single concert date.<\/p>\n From family milestones to surprise stage appearances, Columbus and its surrounding communities have long been a quiet backdrop to chapters of the English native’s life.<\/p>\n Here are some notable connections Clapton has to Ohio.<\/p>\n Clapton\u2019s wife, Melia McEnery, was born and raised in the Columbus area<\/a>. The two met in Los Angeles in 1999 at a party thrown in his honor. They married in 2002 in a private ceremony at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Ripley, England.<\/p>\n In 2003, Clapton purchased a mansion off Harriott Road in Dublin, a community northwest of Columbus known for its golf courses and rolling landscapes. The estate, originally built in 1995<\/a>, has been described as a mix of modern luxury and timeless elegance.<\/p>\n Before they married and bought the Dublin home, Clapton and McEnery welcome eldest daughter Julie Rose, who was born in Columbus in June 2001<\/a>.
