Cardi B says her confidence comes from fans wanting her music – and she\u2019s ready to deliver with a brand new album.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The WAP<\/strong> rapper confirmed her long-awaited second album\u00a0Am I the Drama?<\/em>\u00a0will finally drop on September 19, seven years after her Grammy-winning debut\u00a0Invasion of Privacy<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The Bronx-born star said public demand is what keeps her motivated to deliver.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Billboard<\/a>, Cardi, 31, said: “I\u2019m really one of those artists that people ask for their albums the most every year.<\/p>\n

“I wouldn\u2019t be confident if nobody asked me for my s***. Imagine nobody asking for an album of yours? Imagine nobody asking for your music? That\u2019s why I\u2019m so confident.\u201d<\/p>\n

The new album will feature\u00a023 tracks, including her No.1 hits\u00a0WAP\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>and\u00a0Up<\/strong>, though she confirmed that these older songs won\u2019t count toward first-week chart numbers. Two singles have already been released – Outside<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Imaginary Playerz<\/strong>, the latter sampling Ren\u00e9 and Angela.<\/p>\n

Despite years at the top of the charts, Cardi B still hasn\u2019t hit the road with her own headlining tour \u2014 a fact she admits is surprising even to her. While she’s already raking in huge sums for one-off shows, the rapper says she’s holding back until the music is right as she prioritises artistry over cash.<\/p>\n

She said: \u201cA lot of people say I got comfortable because I make money, but the most money I make is when I go and do shows.<\/p>\n

\u201cI could rush and put out music like it\u2019s nothing and then pick up millions of dollars per show, but it\u2019s not about that. I want the music to be great. I want it to be amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Seven years on from her debut,\u00a0Cardi B – who has daughter Kulture, seven, son Wave, four, and Blossom, 11 months, with her estranged husband Offset – says she\u2019s grown as both an artist and a woman, learning how to navigate fame, family life and the pressures of the music industry.<\/p>\n

She said: “I\u2019ve experienced a lot. The good and bad of fame, the hate, jealousy, drama, balancing my career with my personal life and growing up and maturing. I\u2019ve learned to control my emotions and understand how life works and how to play chess better.”<\/p>\n

Often named alongside Nicki Minaj and Megan Thee Stallion as part of rap\u2019s so-called “Big Three,\u201d Cardi says she still deserves that spot even with her hiatus.<\/p>\n

She said: \u201cBecause I do my job well and I take my time with my music \u2014 clearly you can see that. So many [rappers] come and go, and I\u2019m still here. You can downplay my accent, but I put a lot of thought into my work. I don\u2019t half-a** anything I do.”<\/p>\n

But she insists she\u2019s not chasing chart numbers with\u00a0Am I the Drama?<\/em>, <\/em><\/strong>adding that real success goes beyond sales.<\/p>\n

Cardi added: \u201cWinning a Grammy, the most prestigious award, you can never take that from me. But times have changed. Success for me will be people saying, \u2018She put out a great album.\u2019 If [at] 3\u00a0a.m. people are talking about the album, that\u2019s going to be success for me because people can\u2019t wait to downplay it. I even want the people who don\u2019t like me to be like, ‘Yo. That s*** is fire.’ Yeah, eat your f****** fruits.”<\/p>\n
