Sixteen years later, she finally agreed to strip down<\/a> after baring her soul in a variety of musicals.<\/p>\nStill, the decision to undress in the risqu\u00e9 magazine in 2005 was one Gibson thought through thoroughly, the \u201cFoolish Beat\u201d singer, 54, says in her upcoming memoir, Eternally Electric: The Message In My Music<\/a>, out Sept. 9. She notes that she cleared the shoot with her sisters so her \u201cnieces and nephews wouldn\u2019t be scarred for life by Aunt Deborah\u2019s naked photos.\u201d<\/p>\nGibson, then 34, saw the pictorial in a classy, peekaboo way <\/a>and even had a clothing budget. During the shoot, she was told, \u201cThis is the highest clothing budget we\u2019ve ever had for a naked photo shoot!\u201d<\/p>\nGibson\u2019s mom was also on hand as both her mother and manager.<\/p>\n
She writes in the memoir: Though unorthodox to have one\u2019s mother at a Playboy shoot, we had such a deep professional understanding of each other that she knew, once I committed to doing something, it was her job to support me 100 percent. My inner circle also made sure my body angles were flattering, my cheeks \u2014 all of them \u2014 were flushed and perky, and my facial expressions were authentic and strong. All in all, I had an absolute blast, and it shows.<\/p>\n
The \u201cOnly In My Dreams\u201d songstress<\/a> was pleased with her experience and the images, but the magazine\u2019s founder, Hugh Hefner<\/a>, failed to see the images in the same light and didn\u2019t put her on the cover, as she was led to suspect. Instead, the magazine opted for a clothed Paris Hilton<\/a>.
