The reruns are almost over as is the hosts’ summer hiatus after ABC’s ‘The View’<\/a> announced their upcoming return for a new Season 29<\/a> on Sept. 8 \u2014 despite backlash from the White House<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In a promo posted on Monday<\/a>, Sept. 1, the show’s hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Ana Navarro and Alyssa Farah Griffin announced, \u201cOK people, the countdown is on to an all new season of \u2018The View,\u2019 the most watched Emmy-nominated number-one daytime talk show.\u201d<\/p>\n

The White House warned \u201cThe View<\/a>\u201d about the potential to be “pulled off the air” after a scathing criticism<\/a> of President Donald Trump by Joy Behar after the July 23rd episode. The next day, the talk show announced they were going on hiatus<\/a>.<\/p>\n

During the Wednesday, July 23 episode, co-host Whoopi Goldberg introduced a topic about Trump accusing former President Barak Obama of treasonous behavior<\/a>, to which Behar responded<\/a>:<\/p>\n

\u201cFirst of all, who tried to overthrow the government on Jan. 6? Who was that again? That was not Obama,\u201d she\u00a0said, referring to the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. \u201cThe thing about him is he\u2019s so jealous of Obama, because Obama is everything that he is not: trim, smart, handsome, happily married, and can sing Al Green\u2019s song \u2018Let\u2019s Stay Together\u2019 better than Al Green. And Trump cannot stand it. It\u2019s driving him crazy.\u201d<\/p>\n

The episode prompted a follow-up statement from White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers to Entertainment Weekly<\/a>, \u201cJoy Behar is an irrelevant loser suffering from a severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome,\u201d she said before claiming\u00a0\u201cThe View\u201d\u00a0has its \u201clowest ratings\u201d in recent years.<\/p>\n

The statement<\/a> continued, adding that Behar “should self-reflect on her own jealousy of President Trump\u2019s historic popularity before her show is the next to be pulled off air.”<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for\u00a0The View<\/a>\u00a0responded to the WH statement by claiming that it is \u201cup in total viewers and women 18-49, versus the comparable weeks last season, to its most-watched in four years,\u201d adding that \u201cseason to date,\u00a0\u201cThe View\u201d is ranking No. 1 in households and total viewers among all network daytime talk shows and news programs for the fifth straight season.\u201d<\/p>\n
