Cardi B<\/a> has words for anyone who wants to downplay her Grammy win.<\/p>\n The rapper addressed the tendency for artists to minimize the prestigious award while speaking to Billboard<\/em>\u2019s Carl Lamarre<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cEverybody always wants to downplay it but everybody wants one,\u201d Cardi said at the nine-minute mark in the video linked above. \u201cEvery year people want to downplay the Grammys, but every year they submit their music. Obsess.<\/a><\/p>\n One of those nominated artists includes D Smoke<\/a>, who was a contestant on the first season of Netflix\u2019s Rhythm + Flow<\/em>.<\/p>\n \u201cA lot of people will downplay it like, \u2018Oh, it’s a label thing,\u2019 but it’s art,\u201d she added. \u201cIt’s a lot of artists that people probably never heard of that still get nominated. It’s about the passion.<\/p>\n \u201cI feel like the people from the board could tell when somebody put passion, put pain, put time on their shit,\u201d Cardi continued. \u201cWhen I submit my album, when I submit my records: if I lose, I lose. And if I lose, I lose\u2014it is what it is. But I’m not going to fucking hate on it \u2026 I’m not going to be like, \u2018Oh, that don’t mean something.\u2019 It do mean something. That’s why y’all chase it \u2026 Stop playing.\u201d<\/p>\n Lamarre spoke to Cardi about Doechii\u2019s win for Best Rap Album earlier this year, making her the third-ever female artist to win the award after Cardi herself in 2019 for Invasion of Privacy<\/em> and Lauryn Hill<\/a> (with the Fugees<\/a>) in 1997 for The Score<\/em>.<\/p>\n Cardi recalled that she wasn\u2019t able to speak with the \u201cDenial is a River\u201d rapper because Doechii and her mother were \u201cvery emotional backstage\u201d immediately following the win.<\/p>\n Cardi could relate from her own experience with winning.<\/p>\n \u201cIt meant so much to me because it was just, like, in such a time that I didn’t know the certainty of my career and I didn’t know nothing about my career,\u201d Cardi said, describing a time where she didn\u2019t understand the industry and was navigating pregnancy, long hours in the studio, illness, new managers, and litigation.<\/p>\n Despite those challenges, Cardi says she remained \u201cdedicated.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cYes, I sold a lot of records and yes, I had a lot of hit records\u2014and then being recognized for it with the most [prestigious] award?
