{"id":1998139,"date":"2025-09-05T01:18:23","date_gmt":"2025-09-05T01:18:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/?p=1998139"},"modified":"2025-09-05T01:18:23","modified_gmt":"2025-09-05T01:18:23","slug":"performing-arts-lineup-includes-productions-concerts-dances-and-a-new-theater","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/performing-arts-lineup-includes-productions-concerts-dances-and-a-new-theater\/","title":{"rendered":"Performing arts lineup includes productions, concerts, dances, and a new theater"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>With more than 3,000 students participating in the performing arts at RIT, including a record 601 new <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rit.edu\/performingarts\/performing-arts-scholarship\">Performing Arts Scholars<\/a>\u00a0and more than 50 performing arts-focused student clubs, it\u2019s not hard to find instrumental, vocal, theatrical, and dance performances on and around campus throughout the year.<\/p>\n<p>RIT\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rit.edu\/liberalarts\/school-performing-arts\">School of Performing Arts<\/a> and the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rit.edu\/ntid\/performing-arts\">National Technical Institute for the Deaf<\/a> have released their <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1sMAdcdSHDq6AZ_LaZeaJJ-w7-QbICU6h8bIl5uXxr6o\/edit?tab=t.0\">2025\/2026 Joint Theatrical and Dance Season<\/a>. From small ensembles playing in intimate settings such as the Allen Chapel, to staged, ticketed productions in the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rit.edu\/performingarts\/panara-theatre\">Robert F. Panara Theatre<\/a> and the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rit.edu\/performingarts\/sklarsky-glass-box-theater\">Sklarsky Glass Box Theater<\/a> in the SHED, there will be plenty of opportunities to enjoy the students\u2019 talents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Performing Arts ecosystem on campus has grown at a staggering pace, with one in seven undergraduate students on campus a Performing Art Scholar,\u201d said <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rit.edu\/directory\/ejhspa-erica-haskell\">Erica Haskell<\/a>, director of the School of Performing Arts. \u201cWe offer our students the opportunity to major in STEM-focused fields while participating, at a high level, in music, theater, technical theater, and dance. Our performing students continue to exceed expectations.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"lightgallery--news\">\n<div class=\"secondary-image secondary-image--landscape secondary-image--right gallery-item\" data-src=\"\" data-sub-html=\"CAPTION&lt;br&gt;&lt;p&gt;CREDIT&lt;\/p&gt;\">\n<div class=\"lightbox-expand--full-image position-relative\"><\/p>\n<p><span aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"fa fa-expand\">\u200c<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"credit\">Carlos Ortiz\/RIT<\/p>\n<p class=\"caption\">Double Stop!, a rocking cello duo featuring Brandon Faunce, seated, and Gavin Palmer performed as the previous year\u2019s winners during last February\u2019s Ovation: RIT Performing Arts Competition.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Students have recently won prestigious awards from the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival, and the RIT Wind Ensemble was selected to perform at the College Band Director\u2019s National Association Eastern Convention.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese honors are usually only achieved by students pursuing degrees in the performing arts,\u201d Haskell said. \u201cOur highly qualified and deeply interdisciplinary faculty provide expertise and inspiration that enrich students\u2019 experience and result in exceptional performances while the Rochester arts community offers ample events and performances to attend.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Among the first public performances this year are during the communitywide <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/rochesterfringe.com\/\">ESL Rochester Fringe Festival<\/a>, Sept. 9-20, which boasts more than 600 events. <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rit.edu\/gcr\/fringefest\">Several are RIT-related<\/a>, including performances of a cappella groups, dance, improv, and short films by RIT students. All RIT events are free and held in downtown Rochester at the Little Theater, 240 East Ave. Free <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rit.edu\/gcr\/fringefest\/shuttle\">shuttle service<\/a> on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays is available for students.<\/p>\n<p>On Oct. 17-19, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rit.edu\/brickcity\/events?weekday=upcoming&amp;time=&amp;category%5B%5D=Performing+Arts&amp;text=\">numerous performances<\/a> by student groups will be held throughout campus during <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rit.edu\/brickcity\/\">Brick City Homecoming and Family Weekend<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The comedic thriller <em>The 39 Steps<\/em>, adapted from a movie by Alfred Hitchcock, runs Nov. 7-10. As with all RIT\/NTID Performing Arts productions, deaf actors will use American Sign Language, while hearing actors will perform in spoken English.<\/p>\n<p>Shakespeare\u2019s <em>Macbeth<\/em>, with a technological twist, will be performed Nov. 13-16. It will include music with ambient electronic backing tracks and live percussion, performed by students stationed throughout the Sklarsky Glass Box Theater. \u201cEach percussion station, positioned on the balconies, will feature a mix of traditional instruments such as cymbals and drums, and unconventional \u2018found instruments\u2019 such as brake drums, metal pipes, wrought iron fencing, thunder sheets, wooden boxes, and metal tanks,\u201d said <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rit.edu\/directory\/jvhspa-joel-hunt\">Joel Hunt<\/a>, assistant professor of music and the production\u2019s musical director.<\/p>\n<p>The popular student talent competition, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rit.edu\/gcr\/performing-arts\">Ovation: RIT Performing Arts Competition<\/a>, is scheduled for Feb. 6 in Ingle Auditorium. There are typically a wide variety of acts, some solo, some bands, some ensembles, and some surprises. Students audition for a spot to compete for top honors.<\/p>\n<p>On March 26-29,<em> The Nether,<\/em> a sci-fi thriller that examines the nature of mortality in a virtual age, will be performed in the Sklarsky theater. Living in a virtual world, the characters explore the boundaries of reality, ethics, and identity.<\/p>\n<p>The inaugural event at the new <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rit.edu\/buildingthefuture\/musicperformancetheater\">Music Performance Theater<\/a>, featuring a 750-seat theater, is expected this spring. <em>Till There Was You<\/em>, directed by <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rit.edu\/directory\/cxrspa-christopher-ryan\">Christopher Ryan<\/a>, celebrates the diverse ecosystem at RIT with theater, dance, and music, with various selections from musical theater.<\/p>\n<p>On April 17-19, <em>Pure Imagination: The Magical Candy Shoppe<\/em>, will feature a fantastical world told through fusion of dance, music, American Sign Language, and multimedia, with ballet, tap, jazz, modern, Afro hip-hop, acrobatic dance, animated avatars, and cutting-edge projection technology.
