Tame Impala<\/a> has unveiled its fifth studio album, Deadbeat. The follow-up to 2020\u2019s The Slow Rush is officially set for release on Friday, October 17th via Columbia, and will include the previously-released single \u2018End Of Summer\u2019<\/a> from last month. To coincide with the album\u2019s announcement, its second single \u2018Loser\u2019 has been lifted from it; that, as well as pre-save info, can be found below.<\/p>\n \u2018Loser\u2019 arrived on Wednesday (September 3rd), following a cryptic teaser in the weeks prior; on all streaming services, the credits on \u2018End Of Summer\u2019 were changed from Kevin Parker to \u201cLoser\u201d. The song has also been given an accompanying music video, directed by New Zealand-born and Los Angeles-based director Sam Kristofski. The clip stars Joe Keery, the American actor and musician who performs under the moniker of Djo<\/a>, and also features a cameo from Beck<\/a> \u2013 the original \u2018Loser\u2019.<\/p>\n Little has been revealed about Deadbeat ahead of its release. What is known thus far, however, is that the album will include 12 tracks and was \u2013 as with all Tame Impala releases \u2013 written, recorded, produced, mixed and mastered entirely by Parker at his studio in Injidup, Western Australia. Parker, too, has revealed that the sound of Deadbeat was \u201cdeeply inspired by bush doof culture and the Western Australia rave scene\u201d. In a new interview with GQ<\/a>, Parker revealed the inspiration for the album\u2019s title \u2013 wearing the term, with universally negative connotations, as a term of endearment.<\/p>\n \u201cDeadbeat is a feeling of being behind the eight ball in life and in the world, of not being able to get your shit together, of being an inferior human,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd that\u2019s depressing until I wear it as a badge, and then I feel good about it, stronger. If I can walk into a room of people and they know that I\u2019m a deadbeat, that I\u2019m a fucking piece of shit, then I\u2019m going to have a better time. The expectation for me to be the guy with his shit together is gone.\u201d<\/p>\n Since the release of\u00a0The Slow Rush, Parker\u2019s focus has largely been on collaborating with other artists. The 2020s has seen him release collaborative singles with acts such as\u00a0The Streets<\/a>\u00a0(\u2018Call My Phone Thinking I\u2019m Doing Nothing Better\u2019<\/a>),\u00a0Diana Ross<\/a>\u00a0(\u2018Turn Up The Sunshine\u2019<\/a>, for the\u00a0Minions: The Rise Of Gru<\/a>\u00a0soundtrack),\u00a0Gorillaz<\/a>\u00a0(\u2018New Gold\u2019<\/a>, alongside Bootie Brown),\u00a0Thundercat<\/a>\u00a0(\u2018No More Lies\u2019<\/a>) and\u00a0Justice<\/a>\u00a0(\u2018One Night\/All Night\u2019<\/a>\u00a0and \u2018Neverender\u2019). In 2024, Parker\u00a0served as a producer and songwriter<\/a>\u00a0on\u00a0Dua Lipa<\/a>\u2018s third studio album,\u00a0Radical Optimism<\/a>, alongside\u00a0Danny L. Harle<\/a>.
