Boz Scaggs<\/a> will release a new album, his first in seven years, on Oct. 17.<\/p>\n Detour<\/em> follows the Grammy-nominated Out of the Blues<\/em>, and, like that album and its immediate predecessors, will feature songs from the past, with a focus on personal jazz favorites\u00a0and music from the Great American Songbook.<\/p>\n You can hear the first advanced track from the album, a reworking of “I’ll Be Gone” from his self-titled 1969 LP, below.<\/p>\n Listen to Boz Scaggs’ ‘I’ll Be Gone’<\/strong><\/p>\n “If I look at myself as a musician over the years, I’d have to consider my primary instrument to be my voice,” Scaggs said in a press release announcing the album.<\/p>\n READ MORE:\u00a0<\/strong>Boz Scaggs, ‘Memphis’ Album Review<\/a><\/p>\n “Early on, I was really influenced by rock ‘n’ roll guys like Chuck Berry<\/a> and Elvis Presley<\/a>, and R&B and soul singers like Marvin Gaye<\/a> and Bobby ‘Blue’ Bland, but there was something about jazz and standards that always fascinated me.”<\/p>\n The seeds for Detour<\/em> were planted when Scaggs and pianist Seth Asarnow began casually recording standards together as demos.<\/p>\n Soon, the project\u00a0took shape as bassist Hans Trowsea, drummer Jason Lewis, multi-instrumentalist Jim Cox, violin and viola player Jeremy Cohen, and guitarists Michael Miller and Ashra Weston joined the sessions.<\/p>\n “I had no intention of making a record when I started singing these songs,” Scaggs noted. “It was all very casual at first, just an opportunity to explore a style of music I’ve always liked, to get together with a friend and play for the sheer joy of it.”<\/p>\n You can see the track listing for Scaggs’ Detour<\/em> below.<\/p>\n Boz Scaggs, ‘Detour’ Track Listing<\/strong> He started in the Steve Miller Band but quickly developed his own identity.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Gallery Credit: Michael Gallucci<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\nWhat’s on Boz Scaggs’ First Album in Seven Years?<\/h3>\n
