Mr. Vegas<\/a> is claiming that Beyonc\u00e9<\/a> completely scrapped a dancehall album after one of its songs leaked, but his timeline doesn’t match up.<\/p>\n In a newly released interview with DJ Vlad, the 50-year-old Jamaican dancehall artist spoke about working with Bey for her track \u201cStanding On The Sun.” He described how he got involved in a dancehall project after the success of his 2012 song \u201cBruk It Down.\u201d<\/p>\n According to Mr. Vegas, an industry contact helped connect him to Beyonc\u00e9, and the process was treated with extreme secrecy.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was like some top, you know, secret files,\u201d Vegas recalled near the seven-minute mark. \u201cWe had to go through code and all kinds of things to get, you know \u2026 confidentiality agreements.\u201d<\/p>\n COMPLEX SHOP:<\/b> Shop the brands you love, anytime and anywhere. Obsess.<\/a><\/p>\n Vegas said he wanted to deliver something authentic and \u201ctook the project\u201d to Jamaica and worked with Danny Browne, who produced \u201cHeads High<\/a>,\u201d and Clevie from Steely & Clevie, to capture the raw dancehall sound.<\/p>\n \u201cWe sent it to her and she wanted me to be more hardcore on the record because I was trying to be like trying to do like a \u2018Baby Boy\u2019 type of thing with Sean Paul vibe, and she was like \u2018No, no.\u2019 She wanted the raw thing,\u201d Mr. Vegas said.<\/p>\n However, things supposedly took a turn after Vegas delivered the material.<\/p>\n \u201cSomeone actually leaked the record, and the record started taking off on the East Coast,\u201d he claimed. \u201cPeople were calling me [like], \u2018Oh, you and Beyonc\u00e9, it\u2019s No. 1 on the station.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Vegas says he believes the leak derailed everything, as Beyonc\u00e9 had supposedly \u201cscrapped\u201d the project entirely. He also claimed that an engineer played for him Beyonc\u00e9\u2019s dancehall album, including \u201cStanding On The Sun.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThe next day or two days after, I woke up and Beyonc\u00e9 dropped a totally new project at 12 midnight,\u201d Vegas said of the singer\u2019s 2013 self-titled album. \u201cNo \u2018Standing on the Sun,\u2019 nothing I heard in the studio. So maybe because they leaked the record, she was pissed or something, I don’t know. But then, later on, she put it on a \u2018platinum\u2019 compilation.<\/p>\n \u201cShe loved the song. She still performs it on her tours. Someone leaked it, just my luck. It would have been another \u2018Baby Boy,\u2019\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n The only problem is that his account doesn\u2019t quite match the record.<\/p>\n \u201cStanding on the Sun\u201d first surfaced via an H&M campaign<\/a> in April 2013. The complete version of the track leaked online that June, per Rolling Stone<\/a>.<\/p>\n Beyonc\u00e9\u2019s surprise self-titled album didn\u2019t arrive until Dec. 13, 2013. A \u201creggae remix\u201d of the track was included in the Platinum Edition re-release the following year.<\/p>\n It\u2019s likely that Beyonc\u00e9 has a trove of unreleased songs that span different genres. After all, Jay-Z told Angie Martinez in 2013 that his wife has \u201c100,000 amazing songs\u201d in the vault (you can watch that moment here at the 2:53 mark<\/a>).<\/p>\n However, the claim that Beyonc\u00e9 swapped out an album at the last minute doesn\u2019t add up.<\/p>\n Beyonc\u00e9 shot the visuals for her self-titled album between June and November 2013 while on the road for her Mrs. Carter World Tour, according to an interview the project\u2019s creative director Todd Tourso gave Vulture<\/a>.
