Sheinelle Jones<\/strong><\/a> sat down for an emotional interview about her late husband Uche Ojeh\u2019s<\/strong><\/a> death while returning to her Today<\/em><\/a> cohosting duties.<\/p>\n

During the Friday, September 5, installment of the NBC morning show, which marked Jones\u2019 first episode back<\/a> since Ojeh\u2019s death, she spoke to colleague Savannah Guthrie.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIn this moment, I\u2019m OK. Day-to-day, I\u2019m OK. From a macro picture, how am I doing? My heart is shattered in a million pieces,\u201d Jones began. \u201cThe life that I\u2019ve known since I was 19 is no more. I always wanted kids, and I have three kids of my own now and they lost their dad. I\u2019m their mom, and it sucks. So, how am I doing? It\u2019s day-to-day. I\u2019m proud of myself for how I\u2019ve coped so far. I\u2019m proud of my kids for how we\u2019ve been able to pull through, but it\u2019s horrible.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jones called Ojeh\u2019s death \u201ca nightmare.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe Hollywood and news communities are supporting Sheinelle Jones in the wake of her husband Uche Ojeh\u2019s death. Savannah Guthrie announced on the Friday, May 23, episode of Today that Ojeh recently died at age 45 after a private battle with the brain cancer glioblastoma. \u201cThere are no words for the pain that we feel [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cTo watch a 45-year-old do triathlons and live and breathe off of soccer and his kids? To take a guy like that, and watch him have to deal with this fight was a nightmare,\u201d she recalled. \u201cThe way he fought it and the way we rallied together and the way we saw the best of humanity was beautiful. So, it was my beautiful nightmare.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jones found out about Ojeh\u2019s cancer diagnosis shortly before she ran the 2023 New York City Marathon.<\/p>\n

\u201cLittle did I know that marathon would set me up for a real one,\u201d Jones added. \u201cIt was \u2018one foot in front of the other, one step at a time. This was so hard, I can\u2019t take another step. Yes, you can.\u2019 It\u2019s, like, all those things. Who knew it was a template, a manual for what I was going to have to deal with?\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued, \u201cI believed he was going to be OK. I knew it was going to be tough, but we all believed he would be fine. I got to that place where I didn\u2019t know what tomorrow would bring. When I decided to take a leave [of absence], that was why because I didn\u2019t know what tomorrow would bring and I was starting to feel, like, I didn\u2019t want to miss it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jones broke down in tears, reflecting on her near-18-year marriage, saying that she would \u201cdo it all over again\u201d with the same outcome.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Faith] was his lifeline,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Jones initially took a leave of absence<\/a> from cohosting the third hour of Today<\/em> in December 2024, explaining via Instagram the following month that she was \u201ctaking time to deal with a family health matter.\u201d<\/p>\n

In May, Guthrie announced that Ojeh died at age 45<\/a> after privately battling brain cancer.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith profound sadness, we share this morning that Uche Ojeh, the husband of our dear friend and Today<\/em> cohost Sheinelle Jones, has passed away after a courageous battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma,\u201d Guthrie told Today<\/em> viewers at the time. \u201cThere are no words for the pain that we feel for Sheinelle and their three young children. Uche was an incredible person. We all loved him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jones \u2014 who married Ojeh in 2007 and shared son Kayin, 16, and twins Clara and Uche, 13, with him \u2014 briefly addressed his death<\/a> in May, when she shared a clip of Guthrie\u2019s announcement via Instagram.<\/p>\n

\u201cThank you, for all of your love and support,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n

Later that month, Us Weekly<\/em> shared an update on how Jones was coping with the loss.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no timing on when she will be back [on Today<\/em>],\u201d a source exclusively told Us<\/em> in May. \u201cEveryone is shocked and just so sad. Everyone can\u2019t imagine what she\u2019s gone through. She left in December and [has] been so quiet [and] focusing on her family<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the insider, \u201cnobody knew what was going on except very select people, the top executives and main anchors.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the aftermath of the tragedy, Jones\u2019 Today<\/em> colleagues rallied<\/a> around her.<\/p>\n
