The royal family is mourning the loss of one of its eldest members.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Katharine, Duchess of Kent<\/strong>, died \u201cpeacefully\u201d while surrounded by family members on Sept. 4, <\/span>King Charles III<\/strong><\/a> and <\/span>Queen Camilla<\/strong><\/a> wrote in a social media statement. She was 92.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt is with deep sorrow that Buckingham Palace announces the death of Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Kent,\u201d the family wrote in a Sept. 5 statement on X<\/a>. \u201cThe King and Queen and all Members of The Royal Family join The Duke of Kent, his children and grandchildren in mourning their loss.<\/span><\/p>\n

Charles and Camilla noted that her cous<\/span>in <\/span>Prince Edward, Duke of Kent<\/strong>\u2019s wife<\/span> <\/strong>\u201c<\/span>life-long devotion to all the organisations with which she was associated,\u201d and noted they would remember her for her \u201cpassion for music and her empathy for young people.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Katharine, born <\/span>Katharine Lucy Mary Worsley<\/strong>, married Edward in 1961 after meeting him while he was stationed in the military at <\/span>Catterick Garrison, near her childhood home. The couple married<\/span> in a ceremony that broke royal tradition<\/span> by being held in Katharine\u2019s hometown in Yorkshire, rather than in Windsor, setting off the duchess\u2019 ability<\/span> to distinguish herself among the royal family.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
