This is less a news post and more a message for those closest to Tom Holland. Please stop him. Stop him from doing something no writer, director, producer, or movie star should ever do: read the comments. Because that\u2019s exactly what he says he\u2019s currently doing ahead of his next turn as Peter Parker. Holland says he\u2019s going on the internet to find what fans want from Spider-Man: Brand New Day<\/a>. Even worse? He\u2019s then pitching those ideas to Marvel and Sony.<\/p>\n

Holland told LADBible<\/a> (in an interview we first heard about at Variety<\/a>) he\u2019s been seeking out fan feedback on the world wide web. And not as a lark! \u201cI have been actively sifting through the internet and trying to best understand what it is that the fans want from a Spider-Man movie,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd that\u2019s been my driving force in these pitch meetings.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hoo boy. Hoooooooo boy. Or rather, Hoooooo Holland. Those of us old enough to remember fan suggestions for the Star Wars prequel know this is a very, very bad idea. I\u2019m still and forever haunted by the poster who said they wanted to see a child Han Solo playing with a child Greedo. (Yes, this was a sincere suggestion.) For every good fan idea, there are 10,000 bad ones. And often times fans have zero idea what the hell they\u2019re talking about. No one wanted Michael Keaton as Batman. Few thought Heath Ledger would make for a good Joker.<\/p>\n

While Holland\u2019s internet surfing is definitely not a good use of his time, at least his motivations for doing so are good. \u201cI think the producers, at times were like, absolutely sick of me,\u201d he said. \u201cBut I think it\u2019s really important, because we make these movies for [the fans].\u201d<\/p>\n

Yes, make them for the fans. Just don\u2019t make them with the fans. Besides, no fan, even if they think they do, actually wants to have any say in how their favorite movies get made. If they\u2019re bad, they\u2019ll have no one to blame but themselves. Can someone close to Tom Holland tell him that, too?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
