\u201cFrom what I know, as of this recording, that it was not her idea to leave,\u201d Carvey said of Gardner, before adding that he \u201ccould be wrong.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Spade looked visibly stunned.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cThat would be a little shocking,\u201d Spade said. \u201cBecause she\u2019s really one of the core ones you know from that show and she always does a great job.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cYou never know, and it is a hard thing, but I was really, really surprised,\u201d Carvey added before pointing out she\u2019s one of the more versatile performers on the show.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Gardner has not publicly commented on her exit from the legendary sketch show. Representatives for Gardner did not immediately respond to a celebrity.land request for comment.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The \u201cShrinking\u201d actor\u2019s exit marks the fourth departure from \u201cSNL<\/a>\u201d amid a cast shake-up leading into its upcoming 51st season. Other cast members who will not be returning include Michael Longfellow<\/a>, Emil Wakim<\/a> and Devon Walker<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Yet, Gardner has been a heavily utilized player on the show for nearly a decade, with The Hollywood Reporter noting<\/a> that she had been the longest-serving female member of the current cast.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Although Gardner played a number of recurring characters during her tenure at \u201cSNL\u201d \u2014 including two who appeared on the \u201cWeekend Update\u201d segment \u2014 when reports broke last week that she would not be returning, fans on X mourned her departure with clips from the \u201cBeavis and Butt-Head\u201d sketch.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

And although Carvey and Spade were surprised by the news that Gardner may have gotten the axe, both agreed that maybe it wasn\u2019t the worst thing in the world for the comedian.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
