It was actually a huge relief to be diagnosed,\u201d Plimpton, 54, explained, revealing that she was \u201cabout 50\u201d when she received the news.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Martha Plimpton showed off her ADHD necklace while speaking to Page Six in New York City. <span class=\"credit\">Page Six<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>The actress revealed that she was diagnosed later in life. <span class=\"credit\">Zuma \/ SplashNews.com<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Attention-deficit\/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a developmental disorder characterized by an ongoing pattern of one or more of the symptoms, including inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity, according to the National Institute of Mental Health.<\/p>\n<p>It is considered a \u201cchronic and debilitating disorder\u201d that can impact \u201cmany aspects\u201d of a person\u2019s life.<\/p>\n<p>Plimpton shared that after the diagnosis, things began to make sense.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Plimpton says it was \u201ca huge relief to be diagnosed.\u201d <span class=\"credit\">Steven\/AFF-USA\/Shutterstock<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Plimpton can soon be seen in the TV series \u201cTask,\u201d opposite Mark Ruffalo. <span class=\"credit\">Peter Kramer\/HBO<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cSo many little things fell into place and made sense that hadn\u2019t made sense before,\u201d she explained, noting that she is \u201cnot ashamed\u201d and \u201cfinally free.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m glad to be sharing my ADHDness with the world,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>As for Plimpton\u2019s latest projects, the Emmy winner is back on the small screen playing an FBI supervisor in \u201cTask\u201d opposite Mark Ruffalo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s a special agent in charge, and she\u2019s a woman, so she\u2019s worked really hard to get where she is,\u201d Plimpton explained. \u201cSo that means she\u2019s had to deal with some bulls\u2013t. She\u2019s a woman who I think knows how to cut through the crap and take care of business.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a trait that Plimpton says she can relate to personally.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>She says her character, an FBI officer, has had to \u201cdeal with some bulls\u2013t.\u201d<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>\u201cThe Goonies\u201d alum is also a staunch abortion rights advocate. <span class=\"credit\">WireImage<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>She has been a <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2017\/05\/08\/martha-plimpton-goes-shirtless-for-fundraiser-speech\/\">staunch supporter of abortion rights <\/a>for many years, and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/24\/us-news\/most-us-adults-still-support-legal-abortion\/\">despite Roe v.
