It has been a decade since legendary actor Alan Alda was diagnosed with Parkinson\u2019s disease, and to his credit he is still getting after it at 90.<\/p>\n
And recently, the iconic \u201cM*A*S*H\u201d star revealed what really fuels him in an interview with People Magazine. <\/p>\n
\u201cI think the main thing that keeps me alive is laughing,\u201d Alda said. \u201cWhen something goes wrong, I often see it as funny. Take my Parkinson\u2019s. (Please). The night I accidentally fell into the dishwasher, I reassured our dinner guests by telling them, \u2018I\u2019m fine. It was only on rinse cycle.\u2019 Fortunately, when you\u2019re old, pretty much any bizarre thing you say gets a laugh.\u201d<\/p>\n
And true to that form, Alda recently updated how he was doing in his health battle, telling People Magazine that he was \u201cmaking progress.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI didn\u2019t say in which direction,\u201d he joked. <\/p>\n
The Independent noted<\/b> <\/a>that Alda also has prosopagnosia, a condition which is known as face blindness. The outlet said it makes it hard for Alda to recognize people. <\/p>\n Alda said the issues cause him to face new puzzles that he has to solve each day.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s a little like a game,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019ve found whatever the little problem is, if I keep at it, I can eventually solve it, and then I feel like a million bucks. It\u2019s a way to have a good time under poor circumstances.\u201d<\/p>\n Sadly, he said that dealing with Parkinson\u2019s has gone from a part-time job to a full-time one.<\/p>\n \u201cBut it keeps me always looking for the funny side,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n Along with laughing, Alda has also found things he is passionate in, such as his current podcast.<\/p>\n \u201cTo go a little deeper with your question about being productive while being old, I think a few embers still have to be glowing,\u201d he said. \u201cA passionate interest in something you haven\u2019t yet followed up on.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve always been interested in how many people relate and communicate,\u201d he added. \u201cAnd now I\u2019m spending most of my time exploring that on my podcast.
