Affleck, 53, wore a white T-shirt with tan pants and a black and gray jacket, while Garner, 53, sported a navy blue and gray striped zip cardigan with jeans. The couple’s two younger children followed them, while Affleck’s mother was also in attendance. The trio headed out to lunch at a farmer\u2019s market bakery and caf\u00e9 in Santa Monica. The occasion marked the star\u2019s first birthday since his divorce from\u00a0Jennifer Lopez<\/strong>\u00a0was finalized back in\u00a0January.<\/p>\n While Affleck has had great\u00a0success\u00a0as a director with films like\u00a0The Town\u00a0and\u00a0Argo, he\u2019s made it clear that the experience has significant downsides. At the top of the list is the amount of time it takes him away from his children.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s so consuming. The one regret I have about all the\u00a0movies\u00a0that I\u2019ve directed is the amount of time it\u2019s taken me away from my kids,\u201d he\u00a0told GQ<\/a>\u00a0back in March, explaining why he prefers to work his nine-to-five role with his production company, Artists Equity. \u201cI love making art. I loved making\u00a0The Town.\u00a0But I was away from my kids for long periods of time. There\u2019s little chunks that I missed, and that doesn\u2019t feel good. And I think part of what\u2019s great about this Artists Equity job, part of why I love it, is because I\u2019m in LA. When we\u2019re done at 2:30, I\u2019m going to go, and I\u2019ll be home at 3:45 when my kids get off the bus. And I\u2019m able to construct a\u00a0life\u00a0that does that. And that means more to me than any of it.
