Her third studio album, So Close to What, arrived earlier this year, following the success of her viral 2023 single \u201cGreedy\u201d and its follow-up hits \u201cExes\u201d and \u201c2 Hands.\u201d Known for her sharp choreography and high-energy performances, McRae has drawn comparisons to Britney Spears throughout her career, something she has acknowledged<\/a> as \u201can honor.\u201d<\/p>\n This isn\u2019t McRae\u2019s first time making an impression on the VMAs carpet. At last year\u2019s show, she wore<\/a> a black lace Roberto Cavalli minidress that paid homage<\/a> to Spears\u2019s iconic Dolce & Gabbana ensemble from the 2001 VMAs.<\/p>\n \u201cFor sure, the VMAs look was an homage to Britney, a million percent,\u201d McRae told Harper\u2019s Bazaar<\/a> in a February 2025 interview. \u201cI just thought she looked so stunning in that dress.\u201d<\/p>\n McRae first attended the VMAs in 2020 as a Best New Artist nominee and performer. \u201cI can\u2019t wait to perform,\u201d McRae told E!<\/a> ahead of the show. \u201cThis will be my first time combining my dancing and singing in a performance and my first ever TV debut for singing\u2014it feels surreal to be doing that on MTV.\u201d<\/p>\n McRae is currently kicking off her Miss Possessive<\/a> tour, less than a year after wrapping her Think Later world tour<\/a>.<\/p>\n She has spoken about wanting this new era to lean further into fashion and dance. \u201cI definitely do want to try leaning into the fashion a little more for this tour,\u201d the singer told Harper\u2019s Bazaar. \u201cWhat I\u2019ve been forcing myself to do is write over beats or write over things that the dancer side of me would be triggered to feel, so I can have fun performing it on tour, because those are my favorite[s].
