THE RUNDOWN<\/strong><\/p>\n Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco skipped the 2025 MTV VMAs.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n The engaged couple has shared nominations for their joint album, I Said I Love You First.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n TMZ reported this weekend that the pair is preparing to get married later this month.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco released their first joint album, I Said I Love You First<\/a>, this past spring. But despite having nominations for it, Blanco and Gomez chose to skip the MTV VMAs tonight. Gomez has been doing press<\/a> for Only Murders in the Building, and TMZ reported this week<\/a> that the couple will be getting married later this month, so they are in the midst of wedding prep, too.<\/p>\n It\u2019s worth noting Blanco famously has a fear of flying<\/a>, so he would\u2019ve had to drive across the country to make it to the New York ceremony.<\/p>\n Blanco and Gomez have two nominations this evening: Best Collaboration (\u201cSunset Blvd\u201d) and Video for Good (\u201cYounger and Hotter Than Me\u201d).<\/p>\n Gomez recently spoke on <\/a>Therapuss with Jake Shane<\/a> about first meeting Blanco 17 years ago, noting she believes their romance began at the right time in summer 2023.<\/p>\n \u201cWe met when I was 16 because we were going to possibly work together, but I didn\u2019t start releasing music \u2019til 17, 18…so we saw each other around. It was nice,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n She characterized him as \u201cjust an acquaintance, if that makes sense. And to be honest, I wasn\u2019t like besties [with him]. I just thought he was nice. Then we did a few songs together, [including] \u2018Same Old Love,\u2019 which was awesome. We had a great time. [There was] nothing really there. And then \u2018I Can\u2019t Get Enough,\u2019 which was with Tiny and J Balvin. Didn\u2019t get it there either. I just thought he was funny. I was just like, \u2018This guy is so funny.\u2019 But I didn\u2019t think anything of it.\u201d<\/p>\n She admitted she wasn\u2019t ready for what their love story would become back then, either. \u201cYou know when you realize you\u2019re not in that place anymore?\u201d she asked. \u201cYou need to be where you are. It\u2019s all about timing to meet that person. Because even if I did think, \u2018Oh, let\u2019s take this a step further,\u2019 then it wouldn\u2019t have worked. It just simply you have to be there mentally in order to move forward in something healthily.\u201d<\/p>\n When they started working together on \u201cSingle Soon,\u201d the timing was finally right, even if the track wasn\u2019t their favorite collaboration.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was really fun,\u201d Gomez said. \u201cJust because I can say this because I\u2019m marrying him, [it] just really wasn\u2019t what I thought I wanted. So he came in\u2014and he agrees on a lot of levels\u2014but he just came in, and I was like, \u2018Oh, Benny, hi, Benny.\u2019<\/p>\n \u201cAnd we spoke for two hours, and I asked him to hook me up with anybody that he knew that was cute. And he was like, \u2018Oh, we do these things like dinner nights, you should come.\u2019 And then next thing you know, we\u2019re dating. But he was terrified in the beginning because he\u2019s like, \u2018It\u2019s work and it\u2019s company, and people are going to get mad. And I\u2019m like, \u2018I don\u2019t give a shit, kiss me.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n
