Busta Rhymes is remembering the late MTV VJ Ananda Lewis months after her death. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

While accepting the inaugural Rock The Bells Visionary Award at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards for his contributions to hip-hop on Sunday, the rapper gave Lewis a special shoutout. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cI want to thank \u2014 and I think we all need to acknowledge \u2014 the incredible woman that loved us very much when we came to MTV during the \u201990s,\u201d Rhymes <\/span>said<\/span><\/a> onstage at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York. \u201cAn incredible woman that loved me, and she loved us, and she loved the culture. She lifted us up.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The record producer added: \u201cI love her very much. I miss her very much. The late great, incredible royal empress Ananda Lewis.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Rhymes, whose real name is Trevor George Smith Jr., went on to thank Lewis\u2019 family, including her mother, father and sister Lakshmi Emory. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Emory first announced the news of her sister\u2019s death in a June 11 <\/span>Facebook post<\/span><\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Social media users on X, formerly Twitter, praised Rhymes for his touching tribute to Lewis. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Lewis hosted BET\u2019s \u201cTeen Summit\u201d and MTV\u2019s \u201cTotal Request Live\u201d and \u201cHot Zone.\u201d She has been celebrated for being a pioneer for Black women in broadcast journalism and also hosted \u201cThe Ananda Lewis Show.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Before acknowledging Lewis, the Brooklyn-born Rhymes, known for his high-speed rap style and visually daring music videos, hit the stage at the ceremony to perform a stream of his biggest hits, including \u201cBreak Ya Neck,\u201d \u201cTouch It,\u201d and \u201cPut Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Rhymes was accompanied by rapper Glorilla, frequent collaborator Spliff Star, Papoose and more. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
