THE RUNDOWN<\/strong><\/p>\n Blackpink\u2019s Jennie skipped tonight\u2019s MTV VMAs in New York.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n The singer had her first solo nomination in the Best K-Pop Song category.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n Blackpink is currently on break from their Deadline World Tour, which will resume next month.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n Blackpink\u2019s Jennie returned to the Met Gala<\/a> earlier this year, but tonight, the star isn\u2019t back at the MTV VMAs. After the group made their debut there in 2022, Jennie chose to enjoy a night off during the girls\u2019 well-deserved break.<\/p>\n Jennie has one nomination in the Best K-pop Song category for her solo track \u201cLike Jennie.\u201d Her bandmates, Jisoo, Lisa, and Ros\u00e9, are also nominated in that category. This marks Jennie and Jisoo\u2019s first solo nominations.<\/p>\n The category was announced during the preshow, with Lisa taking the award. Lisa prerecorded her speech<\/a> and skipped the ceremony as well.<\/p>\n The quartet will resume their Deadline World Tour in October; they finished their U.S. and European leg last month.<\/p>\n In April, Jennie spoke to Clash<\/a><\/em> about making her solo album Ruby <\/em>and how she took inspiration from Shakespeare\u2019s the Seven Ages of Man monologue<\/a> from As You Like It<\/em>. \u201cAll the world\u2019s a stage, and all the men and women merely players,\u201d Jennie recalled. \u201cI was inspired by that monologue because it represents these next steps to a whole new stage of my life. I\u2019ve been wanting to do this musically for a long time. Even with all I\u2019ve accomplished in my life, this album feels like a whole other level of discovery because I\u2019m discovering everything on my own. It\u2019s scary but thrilling also.\u201d<\/p>\n Regarding her nominated song \u201cLike Jennie,\u201d the singer said, \u201cIt\u2019s not as serious as it may seem. It\u2019s me celebrating my style and my artistry whilst including the fans in the experience. It\u2019s interactive. It\u2019s one of the gifts of being a public-facing figure. I\u2019m saying get your hair done and get your nails done like me, but in a fun way. It\u2019s really a mirror for them to be who they are. It\u2019s a self-love anthem.\u201d<\/p>\n During the interview, she touched on her time as a member of Blackpink, saying, \u201cWhen I started in Blackpink, I was so young and naive. I didn\u2019t know what I was getting myself into. Over time, I\u2019ve come to realize the meaning and significance of having these girls in my life, whilst trying to figure out my own identity.\u201d<\/p>\n She added later, \u201cMe and the girls talk about how we\u2019ve come so far together. When we first debuted as Blackpink, it took six years of my trainee life. It felt like a lifetime in the making. We are family. We care for each other.
