\n\tSabrina Carpenter<\/a> brought a high-speed and ultra punchy energy to her performance at the MTV VMAs on Sunday night. <\/p>\n \n\tEmerging from a manhole, Carpenter recreated the same shimmering look and feel of her latest single \u201cTears,\u201d recreating the song\u2019s Colman Domingo-featuring music video alongside contestants from \u201cRuPaul\u2019s Drag Race.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tCarpenter slid across the floor with gusto, singing and shimmying her way through the set alongside queens Symone, Denali, Lexi Love and more. The stage resembled the same lit up streets and characters seen in the video, while Carpenter wore a diamond-encrusted bustier. <\/p>\n \n\tThough the jeweled look also made a cameo in the video, the top also drew comparisons to the one Britney Spears wore in her much-referenced tour look for \u201cBaby One More Time.\u201d Like Spears\u2019 2001 performance, Carpenter also danced under rain. She closed the moment surrounded by her dancers and the queens holding signs reading \u201cProtect Trans Rights\u201d and \u201cDolls Dolls Dolls!\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tShe was nominated in nine categories, including video of the year for her desert-style \u201cManchild<\/a>\u201d music video. She is also up for best pop artist, best pop, best album (for \u201cShort n\u2019 Sweet\u201d), best direction, best cinematography, best visual effects, best editing and song of the summer (for \u201cManchild\u201d).<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cTears\u201d appeared on \u201cMan\u2019s Best Friend,\u201d which arrived at the end of August, and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 on Sunday. Carpenter recorded the 12-song set in London, New York and Los Angeles alongside collaborators<\/a> Jack Antonoff, John Ryan and Amy Allen.<\/p>\n
