Lady Gaga<\/a><\/strong> is undeniable. Fifteen years after owning the MTV VMAs<\/a> with her instantly viral meat dress, the Mother Monster proved she was still going strong, capturing Artist of the Year at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards. “Die With a Smile,” her duet with Bruno Mars<\/strong>, was named Best Collaboration. By the end of the night, she had won a ceremony-best four awards.<\/p>\n

Gaga dedicated her Artist of the Year win to her Little Monsters. “The way you move through your life is iconic and rare. It is entirely yours,” she said. “You very much deserve a stage to shine on, and I give you all my applause.”<\/p>\n

She then beat from New York’s UBS Arena over to Madison Square Garden to headline her Mayhem Ball concert. Later in the evening, she beamed performance of “Abracadabra” and her new song “The Dead Dance” from Wednesday<\/em> from MSG. <\/p>\n

Ariana Grande<\/strong> collected three awards for “Brighter Days Ahead” including the top prize of Video of the Year, along with Best Pop and Long-Form Video. “Thank you to my therapists and gay people,” she said. “I love you.”<\/p>\n

Sabrina Carpenter <\/strong>also won three awards, including Best Pop Artist and Best Album for\u00a0Short n\u2019 Sweet<\/em>. She declared herself “the luckiest girl in the world.”<\/p>\n

Song of the Year went to <\/strong>Mars and Ros\u00e9 <\/strong>for \u201cApt.” Mars was MIA for the ceremony, but Ros\u00e9 accepted on their behalf and dedicated the statuette to “my 16-year-old self.”<\/p>\n

In a night of firsts, Ricky Martin<\/a> <\/strong>received the inaugural Latin Icon Award. Before accepting his trophy, Martin tore through a medley of hits, including \u00a0\u201cLivin\u2019 la Vida Loca,\u201d \u201cShake Your Bon-Bon,\u201d \u201cVente Pa\u2019 Ca,\u201d \u201cMar\u00eda,\u201d and \u201cLa Copa de la Vida.\u201d Later, Busta Rhymes<\/a> <\/strong>collected the first-ever Rock the Bells Visionary Award, performing tracks like “Gimme Some More,” “As I Come Back,” “Touch It,” and “Pass the Courvoisier Part II,” and giving props to the night’s host LL Cool J<\/strong> as an inspiration.<\/p>\n

Speaking of special honors, <\/strong>Grande took the stage to introduce the recipient of the coveted Video Vanguard Award, Mariah Carey<\/a><\/strong>, thanking her for “providing us with a soundtrack of our lives.”<\/p>\n

Carey obliged with renditions of “Sugar Sweet,” “Fantasy,” “Heartbreaker,” Obsessed,” “It’s Like That,” and “We Belong Together.” Along with her hits, Carey, who earlier took home Best R&B for “Type Dangerous,” brought the jokes. “I can’t believe I’m getting my first VMA tonight. I just have one question: What in the Sam Hell were you waiting for?” <\/p>\n

Alex Warren <\/strong>proved to be the latest social media star to matriculate to the mainstream. The TikTok star, whose “Ordinary” has been one of the year’s top hits, earned his first major music award on Sunday, being named Best New Artist at the VMAs. He later returned to the stage and performed “Ordinary” and \u00a0“Eternity.”<\/p>\n

Meawhile, MTV voters helped settle the argument over what was the song of the summer in a crowded field, with Tate McRae<\/strong> winning the Moon Person for “Just Keep Watching” from F1 the Movie<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Other winners included Blackpink<\/strong> for Best Group and the quartet’s Lisa<\/strong> for Best K-Pop for “Born Again” (featuring Doja Cat <\/strong>and Raye<\/strong>); Katseye<\/strong> for MTV Push Performance of the Year for “Touch”; Sombr<\/strong> for Best Alternative for “Back to Friends”; and Megan Moroney <\/strong>for Best Country for “Am I Okay?”<\/p>\n

The festivities kicked off with Doja Cat<\/strong> and special guest Kenny G<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

This year\u2019s lineup also included performances from Carpenter, McRae, J Balvin<\/strong>, and Jelly Roll<\/strong> and Post Malone<\/strong> (from Germany), while Steven Tyler<\/strong>, Joe Perry<\/strong>, Yungblud<\/strong>, and Nuno Bettencourt<\/strong> honored late rock god Ozzy Osbourne<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

For the first time, the VMAs aired live on CBS<\/a>, simulcast on MTV, and stream on Paramount+, marking a major expansion for the iconic awards show.<\/p>\n

Gaga came into the night with a leading 12 nominations, followed closely followed by <\/strong>Mars with 11 and Kendrick Lamar<\/strong> with 10. <\/p>\n
