John Oliver devoted the main segment of Sunday\u2019s \u201cLast Week Tonight\u201d to Donald Trump<\/a>\u2019s \u201cwar on education,\u201d focusing on the president\u2019s attacks and attempted shake-downs of universities such as Harvard.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

One of the right\u2019s most recycled talking points, Oliver noted, is that universities are \u201chavens of liberal indoctrination.\u201d Fox News<\/a>, he said, has \u201cfor years now\u201d sought out stories \u201con so-called campus craziness, where something as minor as climate activists delaying the Harvard-Yale game gets a lengthy unpacking on \u2018The Five.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThey live for this petty shit,\u201d Oliver said, before highlighting a 2007 \u201cFox & Friends\u201d appearance by Stephen Miller, now the Trump White House deputy chief of staff.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

At the time, Miller was a senior at Duke University. He went on the show to complain that campus newspapers had refused to run an ad directing readers to a website that made inflammatory claims about Muslims.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Fox hosts \u201clapped it up,\u201d Oliver said, replaying the segment where Miller was asked, \u201cAre you a college kid?\u201d Miller replied, \u201cYeah, I\u2019m a senior at Duke University,\u201d before receiving the compliment, \u201cYou are smart.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Miller then sycophantically told the hosts: \u201cWell, I watch \u2018Fox & Friends\u2019 almost every morning, and so that probably has something to do with it.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Oliver shook his body and mimicked the exchange, before pointing out that despite Miller\u2019s complaints about censorship of conservatives, he still had a regular column at Duke in which he aired his conservative views.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
