Craig Melvin<\/a>\u2018s day out with Al Roker<\/a> was so fun that he took a day off from Today<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n Melvin was absent from the NBC morning show on Monday, September 8. The day prior, he and his wife, Lindsay Czarniak<\/a>, joined Roker and his wife, Deborah Roberts<\/a>, at the US Open finals match between Carlos Alcaraz<\/a> and Jannik Sinner.<\/p>\n \u201cWhat a great afternoon of tennis with @lindsaycz. Was fantastic watching Carlos Alcaraz hoist the @usopen trophy. Love the way he plays,\u201d Melvin captioned pics from the sporting event via Instagram<\/a> on Sunday, September 7. \u201cA huge thanks to the @usta for their hospitality.\u201d<\/p>\n Czarniak poked fun at her husband in the post\u2019s comments, writing, \u201cSuch an incredible match! And yes Melvin was cheering quite loud for Alcaraz afterwards.\u201d<\/p>\n Among Melvin\u2019s US Open pics was a group shot he and Czarniak took with Roker and Roberts. Roker included the snap in his own Instagram<\/a> slideshow on Sunday. \u201cWhat an amazing @usopen afternoon watching the #mensfinal in the company of #livinglegend @stansmithonline and recognizing the #75thanniversary of #altheagibson breaking the color barrier at the then US National Championships,\u201d he captioned his post.<\/p>\n On Monday\u2019s third hour of Today<\/em>, Roker hinted at the reason for Melvin\u2019s absence during an interview with US Open winners Alcaraz and Aryna Sabalenka. \u201cCarlos, I was there last night, along with my colleague, Craig,\u201d Roker told the tennis star. \u201cIn fact, he was so excited and jumping around, he threw his back out. He couldn\u2019t be here.\u201d<\/p>\n Melvin\u2019s absence coincided with his colleague Sheinelle Jones<\/a>\u2018 first full day back at Today<\/em> since the death of her husband, Uche Ojeh, earlier this year. Jones made her highly anticipated Today<\/em> return<\/a> on Friday, September 5, but left for the weekend after the beginning of that day\u2019s third hour of Today<\/em>.<\/p>\n Melvin previously took a day off from Today<\/em> late last month for his kids\u2019 first day of school<\/a>. He and Czarniak share two kids \u2014 son Delano, 11, and daughter Sybil, 8.<\/p>\n \u201cOur<\/p>\n \u2764<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n s are full. 6th and 3rd!\u201d Czarniak captioned pics of Delano and Sybil holding first day of school signs via Instagram<\/a> on August 26. \u201cCan\u2019t wait to see what this year brings for these two.
