Constellation constipation? <\/strong>The world got its collective knickers in a knot several years ago when NASA published a post<\/a> claiming that the star signs changed due to the Earth\u2019s wobbling axis and shifting constellations.<\/p>\n

Not to be outdone, The New York Times, <\/em>which every several years publishes an article attempting to discredit astrology, released a new one in September 2025<\/a> (with beautiful graphics, we can admit!), but with the same-old tropes (and, if you read far enough, some contradictions that land the whole piece disproving their point).<\/p>\n

It really makes us wonder why mainstream media is so hellbent on taking shots at astrology, particularly when more people than ever follow astrology, certainly some of their readers (like us!) A recent Pew Research Center study found that 30% of Americans consult astrology<\/a>, Tarot<\/a> cards and other New Age practices for life guidance. [Shugs<\/em>.]<\/p>\n

We first wrote about this phenomenon in 2016, when The Wall Street Journal<\/em><\/a> brought the \u201cnew zodiac sign\u201d subject into the headlines with fervor. While the world\u2019s skeptics and horoscope-haters and debaters rejoice, astrologers everywhere know it\u2019s all a cosmic crock\u2014there is not a new zodiac sign.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/figure>\n

7 Reasons why your zodiac sign is not wrong!<\/h2>\n

Here are some fast facts you can use to debunk this astrology drama\u2014and reclaim your rightful title as a Leo, Scorpio or whatever your star sign may be!<\/p>\n

1. The constellations have shifted. The zodiac sign dates have not.<\/span><\/h3>\n

Periodically, astronomers will announce \u201cbreaking news\u201d that horoscopes aren\u2019t accurate because the constellations have shifted. Or they will announce is a 13th zodiac sign, citing the constellation Ophiuchus<\/a>\u00a0(pronounced, \u201coh-FEW-kuss\u201d) and\u00a0claiming that the\u00a0horoscope dates for the zodiac signs\u00a0have changed. Here\u2019s an interesting bit of clarification between astronomy and astrology: The actual\u00a0constellations in relationship to the earth\u00a0HAVE\u00a0shifted over the ages. But Western astrology\u00a0follows a different system called the Tropical Zodiac.<\/p>\n

This system uses \u201cartificial\u201d constellations\u201430-degree segments of a circle that are named after the constellations, but not tied to it. <\/strong>The zodiac dates are based on\u00a0the\u00a0apparent path of the Sun<\/a>, called the ecliptic (pictured), as it moves through these 30-degree zones.\u00a0Rather than following the movement of the visible stars, Western astrology is based on the apparent path of the Sun as seen from our vantage point on earth.\u00a0Within that path, astrologers have carved out static\u00a0zones, and we track the planetary movements against these. That is why there are no new zodiac signs\u2014and the zodiac sign dates remain the same even as the heavens keep shifting. The NASA star\u00a0sign changes and new astrology signs would be accurate IF Western astrology was still tied to the position of the constellations. But it\u2019s not.<\/p>\n
