The roots of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band began in Asbury Park<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Not only did Bruce show up , but the whole E Street Band did, too.<\/p>\n A two-song performance of \u201cThunder Road\u201d and \u201cBorn to Run\u201d by Springsteen and the E Street Band capped the Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music\u2019s \u201cBorn to Run\u201d 50th anniversary main event Sept. 6 at the Pollak Theatre on the campus of Monmouth University in West Long Branch.<\/p>\n \u201cI always wanted to say this \u2014 Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band!\u201d said Bob Santelli, founding executive director of the archives.<\/p>\n This was a historic version of the band with David Sancious on keyboards and Ernest \u201cBoom\u201d Carter on drums, playing along with Max Weinberg.<\/p>\n Sancious and Carter left the E Street Band before \u201cBorn to Run\u201d was released in 1975.<\/p>\n The two drummers smiled at each other during \u201cBorn to Run\u201d and kept the beat going strong. Carter played on the single \u201cBorn to Run\u201d and Weinberg played on the album.<\/p>\n Steven Van Zandt, guitar; Garry Tallent, bass; Roy Bittan, piano; and Eddie Manion, sax, composed the rest of the band.<\/p>\n Springsteen and Van Zandt exchanged big smiles after the \u201cI got this guitar and you know I learned how to make it talk\u201d line from \u201cThunder Road.\u201d<\/p>\n Both played the lines accompanying guitar riff. Springsteen directed the \u201cBorn to Run\u201d count out to Sancious and Carter at the end of the song.<\/p>\n \u201cThe full E Street Band!\u201d Springsteen said.<\/p>\n The performance capped a day of panels on all aspects of \u201cBorn to Run,\u201d from the album cover \u2014 Springsteen\u2019s sister Pamela Springsteen interviewed cover pic photographer Eric Meola \u2014 to the writing and recording of the album.<\/p>\n \u201cIf the next one didn’t click, I\u2019m back in Asbury Park but with a lot of debt,\u201d Springsteen said of stakes of the album, released on Aug. 25, 1975.<\/p>\n Springsteen producers Mike Appel and Jon Landau joined the Boss on stage at the Pollak , as did \u201cBorn to Run\u201d engineer Jimmy Iovine.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019d try every crazy thing in the book,\u201d Springsteen said. \u201cI had a cast of true believers when I really needed it.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cBorn to Run\u201d was a hit and it saved Springsteen\u2019s recording career.<\/p>\n \u201cThe record sounds exactly the way I dreamed it,\u201d Springsteen said. \u201cI wouldn\u2019t change a thing.\u201d<\/p>\n
