A two-part documentary about Charlie Sheen will premiere on Netflix on Wednesday, exploring the highs and lows of the actor\u2019s multi-decade career.<\/p>\n

aka Charlie Sheen, <\/em>directed by Andrew Renzi, reveals Sheen\u2019s reflections on pivotal moments throughout his life \u2014 from an unconventional childhood as the youngest son of an actor and artist in Malibu, Calif., to becoming the highest-paid TV actor,<\/a> to his very public, drug-fueled downfall in 2011.<\/p>\n

\u201cI find the way he approached it to be brave and amazing,\u201d Renzi told Netflix\u2019s Tudum<\/a>. \u201cI wanted to show that he had beautiful times but also horrible times. We see the consequences of these actions. I wasn\u2019t shying away from the truth.\u201d<\/p>\n

The new documentary will be released one day after Sheen\u2019s new memoir, The Book of Sheen<\/em><\/a>,<\/em> is set to come out on Tuesday. As we head into what will likely be a week full of revelations about the 60-year-old\u2019s life, here\u2019s what we know about the Netflix docuseries.<\/p>\n

Sheen didn\u2019t want to film the documentary at first<\/h2>\n

In the trailer for aka Charlie Sheen<\/em>, Sheen says, \u201cThe stuff that I plan on sharing, I had made a sacred vow to only reveal to a therapist,\u201d adding that nothing is \u201coff-limits.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite Sheen\u2019s transparency in the finished product, director Renzi told Tudum that the actor initially did not want to be involved in the project at all.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Sheen] was like, \u2018Why step into this arena in this way?\u2019\u201d Renzi said. \u201cI had seven to eight months of relationship building with him before we even sat down to shoot the film. That was really important to me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sheen says in the trailer that he understands he\u2019s the only person \u201cwho has the answers to so many people\u2019s questions about me,\u201d which is why he decided to share everything he can \u2014 the good and the bad.<\/p>\n
