Trump can\u2019t stop <\/span>publicly whining<\/span><\/a> about \u201cwoke\u201d celebrities, even as a federal appeals court ruled today that he still owes money for a different set of defamatory remarks he made in the past. Today\u2019s lucky target is <\/span>Tom Hanks<\/span><\/a>, who came to the president\u2019s attention after a West Point alumni group canceled an event planned to bestow one of its highest honors upon the actor. Hanks was set to receive the Sylvanus Thayer Award, presented annually to the U.S. citizen who best exemplifies the university\u2019s motto, \u201cDuty, Honor, Country.\u201d Hanks has not only portrayed multiple servicemen onscreen, but has also advocated and raised money for veteran organizations and in 2023, started his own coffee company, <\/span>Hanks for Our Troops<\/span><\/a>, to further support military personnel.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In an email sent on Friday, however, the alumni group\u2019s president, retired Army Col. Mark Bieger, said that the planned September 25th ceremony would not be held. \u201cThis decision allows the Academy to continue its focus on its core mission of preparing cadets to lead, fight, and win as officers in the world\u2019s most lethal force, the United States Army,\u201d Bieger elaborated, <\/span>per <\/span>The New York Times<\/span><\/i><\/a>. The decision comes as military academies face <\/span>increased scrutiny<\/span><\/a> under the current administration. Neither the alumni group nor Tom Hanks provided further comment to the outlet, but Trump had a lot to say on the matter. \u201cOur great West Point (getting greater all the time!) has smartly cancelled the Award Ceremony for actor Tom Hanks. Important move!\u201d he wrote on Truth Social today. \u201cWe don\u2019t need destructive, WOKE recipients getting our cherished American Awards!!! Like other celebrities\u2014including <\/span>Bruce Springsteen and Beyonc\u00e9<\/span><\/a>\u2014that Trump has publicly targeted, Hanks has <\/span>backed Joe Biden<\/span><\/a> and other Democratic candidates in the past. Trump\u2019s tirades don\u2019t show any signs of slowing down, but at least the president is facing some legal ramifications for his frequent defamatory claims. Today, a federal appeals court rejected Trump\u2019s bid to throw out a prior verdict ordering him to pay $83.3 million for defaming writer E. Jean Carroll during his first term, <\/span>CNBC reports<\/span><\/a>. The ruling stemmed from comments made by the president in response to Carroll\u2019s claim that he raped her in the 1990s. Trump reportedly argued that the ruling was both excessive and invalid in light of a recent Supreme Court verdict that <\/span>expanded his presidential immunity<\/span><\/a>, but the panel held that the president \u201cfailed to identify any grounds that would warrant reconsidering our prior holding on presidential immunity.\u201d They also rejected the president\u2019s claim that the award was excessive because \u201cthere was ample evidence that Trump was recklessly indifferent to Carroll\u2019s health and safety,\u201d <\/span>per <\/span>Politico<\/span><\/i><\/a>. We\u2019ll see if this ruling has any impact on Trump\u2019s conduct as he shifts his focus to some new left-leaning star in the coming days (or hours). <\/span><\/p>\n
