In a clever twist, the plot of Bill & Ted Face the Music is that our titular heroes haven\u2019t lived up to their own prophecy: these two would-be rock stars were meant to write a song that would unite the entire planet. They\u2019ve failed to do so, and the stakes are raised when a new time-traveler informs them that the future will be ruined unless they can finally live up to their own timey-wimey legend. Together, they get help from their daughters, their musical heroes, and even their future selves, but this might not be enough to create the best song ever made before everything comes crashing down.<\/p>\n
Bill & Ted Face the Music has a stacked cast, including Ready or Not <\/a>star Samara Weaving as Bill\u2019s daughter. Meanwhile, I Saw the TV Glow star Jack Haven plays Ted\u2019s daughter. Kristen Schaal plays the daughter of Rufus (the time-traveling guru originally played by George Carlin), and William Sadler returns to play Death, the chillest Grim Reaper to ever grace the silver screen.<\/p>\n Needless to say, the real stars of this unexpected sequel are Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves<\/a>, who play (respectively) Bill and Ted. Each of them went on to star in much more serious roles, but they had no trouble stepping back in time and inhabiting the cornball \u201980s roles that helped make each of them famous. The cultural influence of Bill and Ted is mainly due to their outsized performances in the earlier films, and in Face the Music, it\u2019s great to see they haven\u2019t missed a step.<\/p>\n As sequels go, Bill & Ted Face the Music deserves full points for its meta plot about how its titular duo failed to live up to their destiny. Initially, the prospect of a third Bill and Ted movie seemed preposterous, mostly because we saw these two ostensibly bring the world together at the end of Bill & Ted\u2019s Bogus Journey. But the third movie built on the uncertainty of our present times (notably, it came out amid the 2020 pandemic) to deliver a tale of two unlikely heroes doing exactly what the audience longed to do: making an increasingly chaotic world finally start making sense.<\/p>\n Critics agreed, and Bill & Ted Face the Music currently has an 83 percent critical score on Rotten Tomatoes<\/a>. Critics dug the goofy and unpretentious charm of our titular heroes and the fact that this outing lived up to the previous two films. I fully agree, and if you enjoyed Bill & Ted\u2019s Bogus Journey (complete with its android shenanigans and adventures from beyond the grave), you\u2019re sure to love Face the Music.<\/p>\n<\/span><\/div>\n
