Stuart Craig<\/span><\/strong>, the production designer of the Harry Potter<\/span><\/strong> film franchise, who also won three Oscars, recently passed away. His death was confirmed in a statement shared by the British Film Designers Guild (BFDG). Besides Harry Potter, Craig was known for his work on films like Gandhi and Notting Hill. Further, he served as the art director of Richard Donner\u2019s Superman, released in 1978.<\/p>\n Stuart Craig passed away on September 7, 2025, at the age of 83, following a battle with Parkinson\u2019s disease.<\/p>\n His death was confirmed in a statement shared by the BFDG<\/a> member Neil Lamont. In the statement, Lamont called Craig the United Kingdom\u2019s and cinema\u2019s \u201cmost revered film designer\u201d and \u201ca true giant.\u201d He also highlighted the latter\u2019s three Oscar wins: Gandhi, Dangerous Liaisons, and The English Patient.<\/p>\n He revealed that they had first collaborated on The English Patient and recalled flying to Tunis to work with him as \u201cone of the most important days\u201d of his career.<\/p>\n Lamont shared that his experience working on that movie not only let him see Stuart\u2019s talent but also how he presented himself in the studio, and other places. \u201cA true gentleman, with grace, kindness and humility,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n Further, Lamont recalled Craig being generous with his time and advice. He noted that the noted designer would go out of his way to offer support and knowledge to people around him.<\/p>\n \u201cWe went on to work on so many other films. I had my own shorthand with him after such a long time, so did all the great people on 8 Potter films, and the Fantastic Beasts trilogy. What a great tutor,\u201d he further stated.<\/p>\n He opined that people would most definitely answer Stuart Craig if asked which production designer they would like to work with.
