The good times seem quite good for Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson in the trailer for Song Sung Blue.<\/p>\n
Focus Features releases writer-director Craig Brewer\u2019s fact-based film in theaters nationwide Dec. 25. Michael Imperioli, Ella Anderson, King Princess, Mustafa Shakir and Hudson Hensley round out the cast.<\/p>\n
More from The Hollywood Reporter<\/strong><\/p>\n Based on a true story, Song Sung Blue centers on a pair of struggling musicians whose luck changes when they decide to form a Neil Diamond tribute band.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m not a songwriter,\u201d Jackman says candidly in the trailer. \u201cI\u2019m not a sex symbol. I just want to entertain people.\u201d<\/p>\n Later, Hudson tells him, \u201cYou don\u2019t want to be a Neil Diamond impersonator. You want to be a Neil Diamond interpreter.\u201d This leads Jackman to enthusiastically respond, \u201cI was looking for the right way to say it, and you just came right out and said it.\u201d<\/p>\n Brewer (Dolemite Is My Name) helmed Song Sung Blue from his own script that is based on a 2008 documentary of the same name. He produces the new feature alongside John Davis and John Fox.<\/p>\n Diamond released his single \u201cSong Sung Blue\u201d in 1972, and it hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Diamond is known for such other notable hits as \u201cCracklin\u2019 Rosie,\u201d \u201cLongfellow Serenade\u201d and \u201cSweet Caroline.\u201d<\/p>\n Jackman starred alongside Ryan Reynolds in last year\u2019s box office smash Deadpool & Wolverine, and his forthcoming features include Three Bags Full: A Sheep Detective Movie and The Death of Robin Hood.
