Contemporary R&B isn\u2019t Summer Walker\u2019s cup of tea. Despite her thriving in this era, the 29-year-old considers herself to be a bigger fan of \u201cold school.<\/a>\u201d<\/p>\n She made this confession to Complex<\/em><\/a> on Sunday (Sept. 7) at the 2025 MTV VMAs while being asked about her thoughts on the current state of R&B<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t like it,\u201d she said. \u201cWell, it\u2019s no shade\u2013I\u2019m just an old school girl.\u201d<\/p>\n Admittedly, Walker still has several classics in heavy rotation. \u201cSo, I really love just like all the\u00a0SWV<\/a>s, and the XSCAPE<\/a> and the\u00a0Brandy<\/a>,\u201d she explained before teasing another potentially controversial name. The jury is still out on who she may have been referring to, but she added, \u201cI just love old school R&B<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n The Over It<\/em> <\/a>songstress also discussed<\/a> her being a top-tier songwriter when it comes to love songs and even shared the recipe for \u201cthe perfect love song.\u201d<\/p>\n She quipped, \u201c[You\u2019ll need] a triflin\u2019 n***a, a smart pen, and a studio.\u201d<\/p>\n Her new album, Finally Over It<\/a><\/em>, is set to drop later this year and marks the conclusion in her hit musical trilogy. The self-proclaimed \u201cretired lover girl\u201d may have taken her album title literally considering she also debuted a new man at the VMAs.<\/p>\n \u201cF**k My Type,\u201d she captioned a series of photos with her and this older, white mystery man<\/a>. Fans praised the singer for leveling up romantically. \u201cNever seen her look this happy in a picture with a guy so I\u2019m definitely here for it,\u201d one user commented.<\/p>\n Another replied, \u201cYou Finally made it over to the soft side of life!!\u201d Someone else chimed in, \u201cTrust me the one who isn\u2019t your type will change your damn life everytime.
