Warner Bros. Discovery<\/a> announced in 2023 that an HBO Max series of The Conjuring was in development<\/a>. The upcoming series will \u201ccontinue the story established in the feature films.\u201d A major update has arrived, announcing that an MCU<\/a> writer has joined the team.<\/p>\n Ever since The Conjuring<\/a> was first released in 2013, the supernatural horror film has developed into a major franchise. After that came three more sequels as well as five spin-offs relating to the haunted Annabelle doll and the Demon Nun.<\/p>\n The final Conjuring movie, Last Rites, had the biggest opening weekend for the franchise, grossing $194 million. While Last Rites may be the last theatrical film for the Warrens, it doesn\u2019t mean it\u2019ll be the last project of the Conjuring Universe.<\/p>\n Puck<\/a> reported that Warner Bros. Pictures\u2019 New Line Cinema division is \u201calready plotting a potential\u201d prequel movie, with no idea whether or not creator James Wan<\/a> will be involved. There\u2019s a good chance that a prequel film could focus on a young Ed and Lorraine Warren, who have headlined the horror franchise as paranormal investigators for a variety of supernatural cases.<\/p>\n Other than a possible prequel movie, The Conjuring TV series will be coming to HBO Max<\/a>. As of yet, there have been no casting or plot details.<\/p>\n Variety<\/a> has reported that MCU writer Nancy Won will be the HBO show\u2019s writer, showrunner, and executive producer. Her TV writing credits have included works like Marvel\u2019s Jessica Jones<\/a>, Supernatural<\/a>, and more.<\/p>\n Other Marvel writers are coming onto the horror project, like Peter Cameron and Cameron Squires.
