Xana Kernodle<\/strong> was stabbed more than 50 times in an attack<\/a> so violent, her roommate misidentified her body, per the police report, which revealed that most of her injuries were defensive wounds, making it \u201cobvious an intense struggle had occurred\u201d with her killer, Bryan Kohberger<\/strong>.<\/p>\n But her mother, Cara Northington<\/strong>, has forgiven him, she told parishioners at the \u201cJourney of Forgiveness\u201d event at the Altar Church in Coeur d\u2019Alene, Idaho, on Saturday, September 6, according to The Spokesman-Review<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t hate Bryan Kohberger,\u201d she tearfully declared.<\/p>\n Northington had previously told the Daily Mail<\/em><\/a> that her daughter\u2019s murder triggered a relapse in her 30-year battle with drug addiction. She was arrested<\/a> three months after the November 13, 2022, slayings and went through withdrawal in jail, where she became involved in Altar Church\u2019s Good Samaritan Rehabilitation program and began reading the Bible, she said at the September 6 event.<\/p>\n \u201cI was very determined and hungry for the word. The Lord just had me surrender it all,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd I did, and I haven\u2019t gone back.\u201d<\/p>\n Northington also remembered the University of Idaho student, 20, as a \u201cbeautiful soul\u201d who \u201clit up a room\u201d and loved playing practical jokes. \u201cShe was funny. She just had a way of making you feel special.\u201d<\/p>\n Northington made similar statements to Kohberger \u2014 who pleaded guilty to murdering Kernodle, her boyfriend Ethan Chapin<\/strong>, 20, and her housemates, Kaylee Goncalves<\/strong>, 21, and Madison Mogen<\/strong>, 21 \u2014 at his sentencing hearing in July.<\/p>\n \u201cMy daughter possessed love for those around her and had a light so bright it will live on forever in our hearts,\u201d Northington said in a statement she read in the court<\/a>, while the murderer sat perfectly still and showed no reaction.<\/p>\n \u201cBecause of her, I came to know my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Because of her, many will come to Christ,\u201d Northington continued. \u201cIt is Christ who lives in me that has given me the strength to forgive you. It was of no power of my own.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIn return, the Lord has filled me with joy, hope and peace that surpasses all understanding,\u201d she continued. \u201cJesus has allowed me to forgive you for murdering my daughter without you even being sorry or asking for this \u2026 This is only possible because He who lives in me is greater than any evil in this world.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t let you rent space in my head anymore,\u201d she concluded. \u201cI am washing my hands of you and turning you over to my Lord and Savior.
