Even though Chance the Rapper<\/a>\u2019s 2019 debut album, The Big Day<\/em>, was a chart-topping album, it was panned by fans.<\/p>\n The public\u2019s reception of the album was a strike to the Chicago native\u2019s confidence. So much so that he didn\u2019t release an album until this year\u2019s Star Line<\/em>.<\/p>\n In a conversation with Cam Newton, Chance opened up about what really happened after The Big Day <\/em>and how he bounced back.<\/p>\n \u201cYou want people to love your music,\u201d Chance explained. \u201cA little while after I dropped, I started to feel this intense criticism really only on the internet. Obsess.<\/a><\/p>\n The 32-year-old explained that the album criticism and personal issues made him \u201cpull back a little bit in terms of\u2026my creative output,\u201d hence the six-year gap between his two albums.<\/p>\n \u201cI think what really helped me get out of that was becoming creative again, but in a different lane,\u201d he continued. \u201cI started working with cameras, I started learning film and learning cinematography\u2026basically putting myself through a fake film school.\u201d<\/p>\n When he realized he had nothing to shoot, he began working on a music video concept titled \u201cThe Heart and the Tongue,\u201d which arrived in 2021.<\/p>\n \u201cOnce I made that song and that video and put it out to be like, \u2018Look at how good this video was,\u2019 everybody was like, \u2018No, look at how good them raps is, n***a. Keep rapping, n***a.\u2019 And I had to keep rapping and keep making videos.\u201d<\/p>\n In 2019, The Big Day<\/em> debuted at No. 2<\/a> on the Billboard 200 chart. However, fans weren\u2019t impressed, and he subsequently fell out of favor.
