Cameron Mathison<\/span> <\/strong>is giving fans the inside scoop on why his character, Congressman<\/strong> Drew Cain<\/strong>, survived a near-death experience on General Hospital<\/span><\/strong>. Mathison has also opened up about his alter ego\u2019s continued role in the show, why he thought Drew might get killed off, and what lies ahead for the villainous politician.<\/p>\n Cameron Mathison recently admitted in an interview that he wasn\u2019t always confident Drew would be alive in General Hospital.<\/strong> With Drew making so many enemies, Mathison expected his character could easily be written off.<\/p>\n While speaking with Soap Opera Digest<\/a>, he said, \u201cAbsolutely! One thousand percent,\u201d when asked if he thought Drew might be killed. \u201cAs soon as [his descent into villainy] started happening, of course, I was thinking about that. I\u2019ve been around the block long enough to know when you can sort of smell somebody getting ready to be sacrificed for a better story.\u201d<\/p>\n Still, Mathison believes Drew\u2019s role as a compelling villain saved him. \u201cDrew\u2019s a good villain. He\u2019s not out there killing people! I think there\u2019s more story to tell, more things for him to get involved in, and, of course, I absolutely love being here.\u201d<\/p>\n After all, Drew\u2019s dramatic return from the brink of death has left viewers divided. While some fans hoped his storyline was over, Mathison revealed that he knew the suspense would get a strong reaction. \u201cI could just hear the millions of viewers being like, \u2018Noooooooo!\u2019\u201d he joked. \u201cI was like, \u2018Yeah, here you go, everybody \u2014 I\u2019m not gone yet!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Additionally, according to Mathison, Drew will use the victim card to manipulate others and blame Michael. \u201cHe\u2019s going to use this to target Michael regardless of whether Michael is the shooter,\u201d the actor explained. Drew wants Willow, the woman he loves, to have access to her children, and framing Michael could help him achieve that.<\/p>\n That\u2019s exactly what is happening, as in the September 8 episode, after waking up, he asked for Willow. Later, Dante said that Michael was the one with the strongest motive to shoot him.
