CLEVELAND \u2014 The Guardians’ chase for a playoff spot<\/a> continues with a matchup against fellow Wild Card contender Kansas City Royals<\/a> Sept. 9 at Progressive Field<\/a>.<\/p>\n Slade Cecconi flirted with a no-hitter<\/a> Sept. 8, and the Guardians offense reached double digits in a near-perfect win. Though, it was just one step in a difficult path the Guardians must take to secure a playoff spot. The Royals eventually put runners on the corners, but Smith struck out Salvador Perez to end the game.<\/p>\n The Guardians starting pitchers have completely shut down the Royals lineup this series (thus far).<\/p>\n Cantillo is through eight scoreless innings on only 91 pitches, putting him in range for a Maddux (shutout on 100 or fewer pitches).
