NEW ORLEANS (WGNO<\/a>) \u2014 The New Orleans Film Society <\/a>announced the opening and closing night films that will be showing at the 36th annual, Oscar-qualifying New Orleans Film Festival<\/a>.<\/p>\n This year\u2019s opening night film, \u201cMichalopoulos: The Art of Celebration,\u201d is a feature documentary from director Sean O\u2019Malley and produced by WLAE.<\/p>\n This year\u2019s closing night film, \u201cWake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery,\u201d directed by Rian Johnson, is the third installment of the Oscar-nominated \u201cKnives Out\u201d film series starring Daniel Craig as world-renowned detective Benoit Blanc, returning for his most dangerous case yet. The film recently premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n (Courtesy: New Orleans Film Festival)<\/p>\n This year\u2019s Centerpiece film is \u201cJay Kelly,\u201d directed by Noah Baumbach. The film stars George Clooney as legendary movie star Jay Kelly, who is joined by his loyal manager, Ron, played by Adam Sandler, as he embarks on a profound journey across Europe, which blurs the line between his public persona and public truth.<\/p>\n Another high-profile film announced is Bradley Cooper\u2019s \u201cIs This Thing On?\u201d<\/p>\n The festival will also include the World Premiere of \u201cShelby,\u201d which follows one Louisiana man\u2019s adventures with underwater logging and treasure hunting. Plus, the North American premiere of \u201cIn Hell with Ivo,\u201d and \u201cLovers,\u201d executive produced by Nathaniel Rateliff, follows two women who return to their hometown for the funeral of a friend and includes New Orleans-based musician Sabrina McCalla.<\/p>\n Time Magazine selects New Orleans teen for \u2018Girls of the Year\u2019 list <\/a><\/p>\n The New Orleans Film Society also announced a new three-year partnership with Andscape, the Black-led media platform under The Walt Disney Company and ESPN.
