A nomination for underrated &#8216;This Is Hardcore&#8217; followed in 1998 &#8211; and now &#8216;More&#8217;, their first album in more than 20 years, has earned them a fourth nod.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Pulp\u2019s &#8216;More&#8217; also featured in our <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/entertainment\/articles\/blue-lights-hexes-exes-best-082228543.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:Best Albums of 2025... The quartet won the prize in 2018 for their second album &#8216;Visions Of A Life&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">In case you were wondering, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/articles\/complicit-silence-bds-movement-call-144710725.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:Radiohead;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\"><strong>Radiohead<\/strong><\/a> and Arctic Monkeys tie for the most nominations, with five each. Arctic Monkeys have one win, for their debut &#8216;Whatever People Say I Am, That&#8217;s What I&#8217;m Not&#8217;, while Radiohead have yet to pick up the prize. For our money, this year\u2019s Mercury Prize should go to <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/entertainment\/articles\/fontaines-d-c-bring-pro-125916262.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:Irish post-punkers Fontaines D.C.;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\"><strong>Irish post-punkers Fontaines D.C.<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s Romance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">They are up for the prestigious\u00a0award for the second time, the first being for their debut album, 2019\u2019s &#8216;Dogrel&#8217;, and \u2018Romance\u2019 was one of our favourite albums of last year \u2013 <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.euronews.com\/culture\/2024\/12\/13\/filth-romance-and-grace-here-are-the-best-albums-of-2024\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:making the Top 3 in our countdown to 2024\u2019s Best Album;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><strong>making the Top 3 in our countdown to 2024\u2019s Best Album<\/strong><\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">We wrote:\u00a0\u201cIt may have one of the year\u2019s ugliest cover artworks, but never judge a stellar record by its last-minute Photoshop job that distressingly captures what it must be like watching\u00a0The Lawnmower Man\u00a0just as the shrooms hit. (&#8230;) Every one of the band\u2019s releases has marked leaps and bounds in terms of songwriting and sound evolution, and \u2018Romance\u2019 feels like a consecration. Its sonic shift retains what made them so addictive in the first place (scruffy poetic stylings, skittering garage leanings)\u00a0but adds an anthemic and significantly poppier sound to the mix. From the ominous titular opener to the stunning melodrama of the James Joyce-inspired \u2018Horseness Is The Whatness\u2019, via the string-swept \u2018In The Modern World\u2019, \u2018Romance\u2019 is their most arresting and expansive album to date. As for the closing track \u2018Favourite\u2019, it\u2019s an addictive 90s-indie final bow that sends the listener off on an almighty high.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">It\u2019s quite simply one of the best albums to be released in this still young(ish) decade, a no-skips treasure that shows there\u2019s no modern band with a 4-album streak quite like theirs. Not even Wolf Alice. Plus, &#8216;Romance&#8217; is a surefire sign that the future continues to look very bright for Grian Chatten &amp; Co.
