Benson Boone\u2019s<\/a> North American tour<\/a> rolled through Nashville last night, Sept. 9, and to mark the occasion, he delivered a stirring cover of a modern country classic, Jason Isbell\u2019s \u201cCover Me Up.\u201d<\/p>\n The performance began with an arrangement fairly faithful to Isbell\u2019s original, with Boone accompanied by just an acoustic guitar. But as the song progressed, more of the singer\u2019s backing band joined in \u2014 as did the crowd \u2014 with Boone pushing his voice higher and higher as he belted the devotional track.<\/p>\n More from Rolling Stone<\/strong><\/p>\n Boone has included a cover song in his setlist at every show of his American Heart<\/a> <\/em>tour so far, often selecting a new song every night. The only repeat so far has been Coldplay\u2019s \u201cSparks\u201d while he\u2019s also done Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper\u2019s \u201cShallow,\u201d Bruno Mars\u2019 \u201cWhen I Was Your Man,\u201d Billie Eilish\u2019s \u201cWhen the Party\u2019s Over,\u201d Harry Styles\u2019 \u201cSign of the Times,\u201d and even Creedence Clearwater Revivals\u2019 \u201cFortunate Son.\u201d<\/p>\n Boone kicked off his current tour last month, and the North American leg is scheduled to run through October, closing with a three-night stand in Salt Lake City, Utah.
