After NBC<\/a> canceled\u00a0Harry\u2019s Law<\/a> after two seasons in 2012, Kathy Bates<\/a> raked the network across the coals in heated remarks one year later. Fast-forward to 2025, and Bates still has no regrets about what she said during that 2013 Television Critics Association<\/a> interview. And she sees\u00a0Matlock<\/a>\u2018s success as a cherry on top of the cake.<\/p>\n Bates starred as lawyer Harry Korn in\u00a0Harry\u2019s Law, which followed three down-on-their-luck people who started a law firm in a rundown shoe store. The series raked in around 10 million viewers weekly for NBC, but it failed to perform well with the younger age demos that NBC wanted. The network canceled it in 2012 after two seasons despite its noteworthy weekly viewership.<\/p>\n \u201cI think they treated us like sh*t,\u201d she told TCA reporters about NBC in 2013. \u201cThey kicked us to the curb. They disrespected us. They disrespected our seven to 11 million viewers a week. And I think they\u2019re getting what they deserve.\u201d<\/p>\n In a\u00a0Matlock Emmys interview with Variety<\/a>, Bates laughed at the outburst and said that\u00a0Matlock\u2018s success proves that stories starring and made for older people is worth the investment.<\/p>\n \u201cThey said, \u2019We can\u2019t monetize on old people.\u2019 And I felt like, \u2019F**k you!\u2019\u201d Bates said. \u201cSuccess is the best revenge,\u201d she added, dusting her shoulders while she was at it.<\/p>\n At 77, Bates is the oldest-ever nominee for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series at the Emmys. She\u2019s considered a frontrunner for the win. (See our 2025 Emmys predictions for the drama categories here<\/a>.)<\/p>\n \u201cI love that,\u201d she said of her record-setting nomination age.\u00a0Matlock\u2018s success \u201cfeels totally different\u201d from her past accolades, she added, and those accolades are many; she already has an Oscar, two Emmys, and a Golden Globe.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s true, first of all,\u201d she said of her age stat, \u201cand it\u2019s a badge of honor. It\u2019s just the serendipity of all of it. I\u2019ve never had any of this stuff happen before, where I\u2019ve got five different designers sending dresses!\u201d<\/p>\n
