It includes me, my wife, my dad and my brother. I probably shouldn&#8217;t be confessing that, as I don&#8217;t think it&#8217;s really allowed, but here we are.<\/p>\n<p>Having switched music services once or twice in the past, I know first-hand what an absolute pain in the backside it is. Yes, even with those playlist syncing apps \u2013 they&#8217;re good, but not flawless, and fixing those flaws takes almost as long as just starting from scratch.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" id=\"elk-seasonal\" data-url=\"\" href=\"\" data-hl-processed=\"none\"\/><\/p>\n<aside data-block-type=\"embed\" data-render-type=\"fte\" data-skip=\"dealsy\" data-widget-type=\"seasonal\" class=\"hawk-base\"\/>\n<p id=\"63d8411e-9f79-4614-8ac9-623231bb7e17-2\">But switching is even harder when there&#8217;s a Family Account involved. Even if I could get all of my family members under one subscription with a rival music streaming service (certainly not a given), there is no way I could persuade everyone to up sticks and start again.<\/p>\n<aside data-component-name=\"Recirculation:ArticleRiver\" data-nosnippet=\"\" class=\"clear-both pt-3 pb-4 mb-4 border-solid border-y border-neutral-300\">\n<span class=\"font-article-heading block pb-3 !text-base font-bold uppercase sm:text-sm text-[#333]\"><br \/>\nYou may like<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<\/aside>\n<p>I&#8217;m a stickler for sound quality, though, and I&#8217;ve had to watch as rival service after rival service has added <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.whathifi.com\/advice\/what-is-lossless-audio-is-it-worth-it-and-do-you-need-it\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.whathifi.com\/advice\/what-is-lossless-audio-is-it-worth-it-and-do-you-need-it\">lossless<\/a> or even <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.whathifi.com\/advice\/high-resolution-audio-everything-you-need-to-know\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.whathifi.com\/advice\/high-resolution-audio-everything-you-need-to-know\">hi-res<\/a> music to their catalogues, while I&#8217;ve been limited to the 320kbps streams on Spotify that should have gone extinct with the MP3 player.<\/p>\n<p>In truth, I do have a <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.whathifi.com\/tidal\/review\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.whathifi.com\/tidal\/review\">Tidal<\/a> account for testing and serious listening, but I don&#8217;t like to use it too often as I&#8217;m also rather addicted to the stats and taste profile elements of Spotify. My Discover Weekly really is rather good these days.<\/p>\n<p>So, yes, ultimately, you could say I was just too lazy to switch streaming services and drag my family into the lossless realm. But it seems as though that laziness is about to be rewarded.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.whathifi.com\/streaming-entertainment\/music-streaming\/our-eight-year-wait-is-over-spotify-lossless-is-finally-here\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.whathifi.com\/streaming-entertainment\/music-streaming\/our-eight-year-wait-is-over-spotify-lossless-is-finally-here\">Lossless on Spotify Premium<\/a> is finally (I notice that even Spotify itself is using the word &#8216;finally&#8217;) here, and, as the name suggests, it&#8217;s a free upgrade for Spotify Premium subscribers.<\/p>\n<div id=\"slice-container-newsletterForm-articleInbodyContent-Tmn9V78jpVjHiGF5aYeAE\" class=\"slice-container newsletter-inbodyContent-slice newsletterForm-articleInbodyContent-Tmn9V78jpVjHiGF5aYeAE slice-container-newsletterForm\">\n<div data-hydrate=\"true\" class=\"newsletter-form__wrapper newsletter-form__wrapper--inbodyContent\">\n<div class=\"newsletter-form__container\">\n<section class=\"newsletter-form__top-bar\"\/>\n<section class=\"newsletter-form__main-section\">\n<p class=\"newsletter-form__strapline\">The latest hi-fi, home cinema and tech news, reviews, buying advice and deals, direct to your inbox.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Said subscribers will be automatically upgraded to Lossless in the coming days, and it sounds as though most of the catalogue is covered.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the use of the word &#8216;lossless&#8217; rather than &#8216;hi-res&#8217; (also note that the rumoured &#8216;Spotify HiFi&#8217; name is not being used), support for streams up to 24bit\/44.1kHz in FLAC quality will be included. Strictly speaking, that&#8217;s above CD quality (16-bit\/44.1kHz) and just into hi-res territory.<\/p>\n<p>Lossless will work via <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.whathifi.com\/advice\/spotify-connect-what-it-how-can-you-get-it\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.whathifi.com\/advice\/spotify-connect-what-it-how-can-you-get-it\">Spotify Connect<\/a>, too, which is how I do most of my listening, but while some compatible AV devices I use will be supported from the off (<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.whathifi.com\/tag\/sony\" data-auto-tag-linker=\"true\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.whathifi.com\/tag\/sony\">Sony<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.whathifi.com\/tag\/denon\" data-auto-tag-linker=\"true\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.whathifi.com\/tag\/denon\">Denon<\/a> are in the list of launch partners), others will be added in time (<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.whathifi.com\/tag\/sonos\" data-auto-tag-linker=\"true\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.whathifi.com\/tag\/sonos\">Sonos<\/a> next month, for example).<\/p>\n<p>To be clear, I haven&#8217;t yet had a chance to test out the new Lossless content on Spotify, as I, like everyone else, am waiting for my account to be upgraded.<\/p>\n<p>But I am nevertheless thrilled that this upgrade is finally coming. Finally, doing nothing has been rewarded.
