He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Original story below:<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Conservative political commentator <strong>Charlie Kirk<\/strong> has been shot while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Kirk is currently in \u201ccritical condition\u201d after being taken to a local hospital, <span class=\"s1\">a law enforcement official told <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/charlie-kirk-conservative-activist-shot-546165a8151104e0938a5e085be1e8bd?taid=68c1d66397147900011cfc2d&amp;utm_campaign=TrueAnthem&amp;utm_medium=AP&amp;utm_source=Twitter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>The Associated Press<\/em><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Kirk, 31, was participating in a Q&amp;A with students when he appeared to be shot in the neck on Wednesday, September 10, per footage shared via social media.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cA single shot was fired on campus toward a visiting speaker. Police are investigating now, suspect in custody,\u201d a campus alert from the university read.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The alert, however, proved to be incorrect.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe suspect is not in custody,\u201d Utah Valley University spokesperson Scott Trotter said in a follow-up statement. \u201cPolice are still investigating. Campus is closed for the rest of the day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Wednesday\u2019s event was organized by Turning Point USA, which Kirk cofounded in 2012.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThis is an ongoing situation. We can confirm that Charlie Kirk has been shot. He is in the hospital, and we are praying for him at this time,\u201d <strong>Aubrey Laitsch<\/strong>, public relations manager for Turning Point USA, said in a statement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Kirk\u2019s status is not currently known.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to celebrity.land, the shot was fired from a campus building about 200 yards from where Kirk was speaking.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><strong>President Donald Trump<\/strong> responded to news of Kirk\u2019s shooting on social media app Truth Social.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe must all pray for Charlie Kirk, who has been shot,\u201d Trump, 79. GOD BLESS HIM!\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Former United States Representative <strong>Jason Chaffetz<\/strong>, a Republican who represented Utah from 2009 to 2017, was an eyewitness to the shooting.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cPeople were there, and there were lots of them,\u201d Chaffetz, 58, told Fox News during a phone interview shortly after the shooting. \u201cYou know, he came out, he was throwing hats, riling up the crowd.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"news-block\">\n<div class=\"newsletter-form  \">\n<div class=\"newsletter-signup__success\" aria-live=\"polite\">\n<h3>Thank You!<\/h3>\n<p>You have successfully subscribed.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Chaffetz said Kirk first answered a \u201creligious question\u201d and was then asked about \u201ctransgender shootings\u201d and \u201cmass killings.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWhen that happened, when that question came out, and he\u2019s you know, he\u2019s going to have the interaction, one shot,\u201d Chaffetz recalled. \u201cI was watching Charlie. I can\u2019t say that I saw blood. I can\u2019t say that I saw him get hit, but I did see him fall immediately backwards into his left.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Chaffetz added, \u201cAs soon as the shot went out, everybody hit the deck and everybody started scattering and yelling and screaming, as you might imagine.
