The Mountain Goats<\/a> have announced their return to Australia. The beloved American folk-rock outfit, fronted by singer-songwriter and figurehead John Darnielle, will play five capital city shows in mid-April 2026 \u2013 almost exactly nine years after the band was last here<\/a> as part of the Bluesfest<\/a> line-up in 2017<\/a>. The band\u2019s full list of Australian tour dates, as well as ticketing info, can be found below.<\/p>\n The upcoming tour is in support of This Through Fire Across From Peter Balkan<\/em> \u2013 the 23rd Mountain Goats album, which is set for release on Friday, November 7th via the band\u2019s own imprint, Cadmean Dawn Records. The album includes contributions from The Replacements<\/a> and Guns N\u2019 Roses<\/a> bassist Tommy Stinson, as well as Hamilton<\/em>\u2018s own Lin Manuel Miranda<\/a>. The LP is reportedly a concept album, in which the titular Peter Balkan is stranded on a desert island with two others.<\/p>\n Since Darnielle and co were last in Australia, they have remained typically prolific. A month after they left Australia, they released the album Goths<\/em> \u2013 which was inspired by bands such as Joy Division<\/a> and Bauhaus. A further six studio albums have ensued thereafter: In League With Dragons<\/em> in April 2019, Songs For Pierre Chuvin <\/em>just under a year later in April 2020, Getting Into Knives<\/em> later that year in October 2020, Dark In Here<\/em> in June 2021, Bleed Out<\/em> in August 2022 and Jenny From Thebes<\/em> in October 2023.
