And just like that, Kristin Davis is already thinking about sending her kids to college \u2026 or not! The Sex and the City star is mom to 14-year-old Gemma, who she adopted in 2011, and 8-year-old Wilson, who she adopted in 2018. Even though she still has several years before they graduate high school, she has started talking to them about higher education \u2014 and her advice looks a bit different from what she heard growing up. SheKnows spoke to Davis while she was on set for her September 2025 Flow cover shoot (see the cover story here<\/a>!), and we were impressed with her insight.<\/p>\n \u201cI mean, there are phases when my kids are both like, \u2018We\u2019re never going to college,\u2019 and like, \u2018That\u2019s fine. You can stay at my house forever. I love you,\u2019\u201d Davis tells SheKnows.<\/p>\n More from SheKnows<\/strong><\/p>\n And she\u2019s not joking, either. \u201cI do say to them, you don\u2019t have to go to college if you don\u2019t want to,\u201d Davis shares. \u201cAnd I say that partly because no one ever said that to me<\/a>, because my parents both worked. They were academics.\u201d<\/p>\n Not attending college was \u201cnot an option\u201d for Davis (who went to Rutgers University), but she wants things to be different for her kids. \u201cI feel like the world is changing rapidly, and college is not necessarily the means to an end that it used to be,\u201d she explains. \u201cBut I also think it\u2019s a super important developmental phase of being out of the house, but having structure. So I can certainly see big, big, big positives of going to college.\u201d<\/p>\n College was never a set expectation from my parents to me or my five siblings. After we grew up, half of us continued on to get our bachelor\u2019s degrees while the others pursued careers through different avenues. I felt supported by my parents no matter what future path I decided on, and I love that Davis is promoting that same mindset for her kids. Especially during a time when kids are so highly stressed about academic success<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cSo, my daughter sometimes used to say she didn\u2019t really care. And I was like, \u2018okay,’\u201d she says. \u201cThen she\u2019s like, \u2018I want to go to college in marine biology.\u2019 And I\u2019m like, \u2018Great \u2014 let\u2019s get the math scores up, but okay.\u2019 And then she\u2019s like, \u2018Oh, I want to go to college in Hawaii.\u2019 And I\u2019m like, \u2018Super great.\u2019\u201d But, Davis says, she doesn\u2019t want to force them. We love a supportive mom!<\/p>\n In her interview with Flow, she said that her secret hope would be for her kids go to UCLA, which is \u201cright down the street\u201d from her, so they could keep living at home (and therefore keep those \u201cempty nest\u201d feelings away \u2014 for a little while longer, at least). But like most parents faced with considering their children\u2019s futures, Davis admitted to Flow that she realizes keeping them home might be a selfish act. \u201cI know that, intellectually, I shouldn\u2019t be fine with that,\u201d she says. \u201cBut emotionally? I\u2019m fine with that!\u201d<\/p>\n For now, though, Davis has a few years before she crosses that bridge \u2014 she\u2019s firmly in tween-and-teen territory, and yes, that includes trying to jump on board with their slang<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s the weird words that Gemma\u2019s group has,\u201d she laments, regarding \u201c6-7,\u201d the popular (if confusing) phrase parents everywhere have been hearing on loop<\/a>. But Gemma doesn\u2019t just say the phrase \u2014 she took things a step further at her birthday party this year. \u201cShe had to make cookies! A six cookie and a seven cookie! Big ones!\u201d Davis tells SheKnows. \u201cIt was her birthday, and I had numerous teen girls at my house \u2026 and that was one of their number one projects they wanted to do, was the 6-7.\u201d<\/p>\n As Davis navigates the ups and downs of motherhood, it\u2019s clear she\u2019s embracing both the big-picture questions \u2014 like college \u2014 and the everyday quirks, like deciphering slang.
