When\u00a0America\u2019s Got Talent<\/a><\/em> Season 20\u2019s final Quarterfinals results show aired on Wednesday, September 10, there was one seat noticeably empty at the judges\u2019 table. Mel B.<\/a>, Sofia Vergara<\/a>, and Simon Cowell<\/a> were all in attendance, but Howie Mandel<\/a> was missing from the panel.<\/p>\n Host Terry Crews<\/a> addressed the situation during the live show. \u201cYou have probably noticed there\u2019s an empty chair here,\u201d he pointed out. \u201cHowie has had a loss in the family so he\u2019s not going to be with us tonight.\u201d<\/p>\n However, he confirmed when the longtime judge will return, adding, \u201cOur best wishes go out to Howie and he will be back next week.\u201d\u00a0Crews did not go into detail about Mandel\u2019s loss.<\/p>\n The\u00a0Deal or No Deal<\/a><\/em> host announced in 2023 that his mother, Evy Mandel, had been diagnosed with Alzheimer\u2019s disease. While referencing the dark glasses he tends to wear during\u00a0AGT<\/em>, he told NBC Insider<\/a>, \u201cMy glasses are my own line at SEE Eyewear. You got to HowieMandel.com and a portion of the sales of these glasses go to Alzheimer\u2019s. My mother suffers from [the disease] so this is something that is near and dear to me. It\u2019s a real tough thing, so if you can\u2019t see, go to SEE and help the cause.\u201d<\/p>\n Mandel has been a judge on the show since Season 5, giving him the longest tenure of all the current judges.<\/p>\n Earlier this week, Mandel was blasted by\u00a0AGT<\/em> viewers for hitting his red X buzzer<\/a> on Zak Mirz during the magician\u2019s Quarterfinals performance. By the end of Zak\u2019s set, Mandel changed his tune and said he was taking the X back, urging viewers to vote for the impressive magic act. But he still expressed some skepticism about Mirz\u2019s act, noting that it took him too long to get to the magic.<\/p>\n Still, the fans voted Mirz through to the Semifinals, along with TT Boys and the Birmingham Youth Choir. Team Recycled also moved on, as they were the recipients of Mandel\u2019s Quarterfinals Golden Buzzer.<\/p>\n These four acts will join 11 others in next week\u2019s Semifinals, which were supposed to feature 16 acts before magician Mastermind dropped out<\/a> due to \u201cpersonal reasons.\u201d It\u2019s unclear if he will be replaced.<\/p>\n
