A tense debate on ABC\u2019s The View Tuesday ended with Whoopi Goldberg<\/a> cutting off the conversation after co-hosts clashed over actor Charlie Sheen\u2019s past and his father\u2019s role in his recovery.<\/a><\/p>\n The discussion followed a clip from Sheen\u2019s Good Morning America<\/a> interview, where he reflected on his father Martin Sheen\u2019s decision to turn him in to authorities following a drug overdose in the late 1990s.<\/p>\n Charlie Sheen, who recently had a documentary about his life come out<\/a>, described it as \u201cthe biggest betrayal you could possibly endure,\u201d but later said he came to \u201csee it as love eventually.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIn his condition, of course he saw it as a betrayal,\u201d Goldberg said, before asking her co-hosts whether they would feel the same.<\/p>\n Joy Behar, 82, responded, “In my view, as an Italian mother, you do not turn your children in, especially if they have a drug problem or a mental health problem.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n “You send them to a shrink or the hospital. You don\u2019t call the police. Martin Sheen made a big mistake.”<\/p>\n Alyssa Farah Griffin, 36, pushed back, citing her sister\u2019s recovery from addiction.<\/p>\n “The most loving thing a parent can do is tough love,\u201d she said. \u201cBeing behind bars led to her getting sober. It was the turning point that helped save her life.”<\/p>\n Sara Haines, 47, also supported the intervention, noting that addicts are often incapable of clear reasoning.<\/p>\n “You\u2019re not thinking clearly,\u201d Haines said. \u201cLike [Charlie] said, \u2018I eventually saw it as love.\u2019”<\/p>\n “I don\u2019t call it tough love. I call it love love,” Haines added. “Sometimes parents bury the bodies.
